Norton Wins Two in a Row in Sportsman Mods

Winchester, NH — On a night perfect for racing Adam Norton in the Custom Pallets sponsored Sportsman Modified took down his second feature win in a row by besting the field on the high banks of Monadnock.

Ken Thompson of Alstead, NH and Jeff Wright of Jaffrey, NH brought the field to green, with Thompson blasting into the lead. Eric Leclair of Easthampton, MA worked over Wright for three laps, finally slipping by into second place.

A lap seven yellow flag slowed the field briefly, allowing Leclair to restart outside of Thompson. When Leclair found the power he needed to get by Thompson on the outside, Eric became the new leader, but that only lasted for a lap. Norton, who started mid pack, wasted little time driving his way to the lead by lap eight. A lap eight yellow bunched the field again, with Norton leading, Leclair second, Thompson impressively holding on to third with Bill Kimball of Bennington, NH, Joe Kendall of Winchendon, MA and Tyler Jarvenpaa of Orange, MA fourth through sixth, respectively.

When racing resumed, Kimball couldn’t wait any longer, and let his presence be known by racing past Thompson for third and a lap later, Bill outraced Leclair for second, closing in on Norton. Jarvenpaa showed his smooth style by picking off one competitor after another until he found himself in third place.

A lap 18-caution flag, the third and final one of this race, slowed the action but only briefly, for at the drop of the green Norton was not to be denied. Norton raced back into the lead with Jarvenpaa charging into second place. With the laps winding down Kimball and Kendall banged on each other for third place. Keith Carzello of Somers, CT took advantage of the bumping, and moved into fourth, and a lap later he got inside Kendall for third. At the finish it was Norton with Jarvenpaa second, Carzello hard charging for his way into third.

Super Stock Win Goes to Ed Laquire Jr

Ed Laquire Jr. of Newport, NH driving the Pro Cut sponsored Super Stock led all 25 laps on his way to hi first victory of the year, but it was by no means an easy win. Laquire and Nancy Muni of Harrinton, CT brought the impressive field to green and Laquire quickly assumed the point. By lap four Tyler Lescord of Ascutney, VT worked his way into second, putting pressure on Laquire until a lap seven yellow, the first of eight, slowed the field.

The restart saw Laqire and Lescord banging on each other for position, while quire managed to resume the lead with Lescord close behind. If that action wasn’t hot enough, things were getting hotter further ack in the pack with John Lavoie, Dave Striebel and Mike Ledoux racing and rubbing three wide for position. If you thought a lap nine caution would cool off Lavoie and Striebel, you would be wrong. When racing resumed so did the Lavoie and Strieble battle on the track with the two rubbing, bumping and grinding away on every lap. Meanwhile, back to the front of the on lap 15 Bill Johnston of Athol, MA powered his way around Dennis Stange of Athol, MA for third.

Finally, after trading enough pint with Lavoie, Striebel brought out the seventh caution of the race, dropping him to the rear of the field. Three laps later Lavoie got sideways off turn 4 and slid to the infield causing the last caution.

On lap 20 Ed Brehio III outraced Stange for fourth and one lap later got by Lescord for third. When that exciting feature ended it was Ed Laquire Jr. the victor, with Bill Johnston second and a fast Eddy Brehio III for third.

Rivet Clean Sweeps Monadnock Mini

Defending Champ Kim Rivet driving the Meadows Motor Car Mini Stock has started the 2013 racing season right where she left off from last year. Joe Rogers and DJ Lazelle brought the pack of Minis to green with Rogers bolting out front to lead the first six laps. On lap seven, JT Cloutier found an opening and got by Rogers to become the new race leader.

While Cloutier was making tracks to the finish line, Rivet was following a fast Mike Stebbins through traffic, both in search of Cloutier. By lap eight, Cloutier was leading a fast pack with Stebbins now in second place, Beth Adams in third, Rivet in fourth and Julia Raymond fifth. With Stebbins working over Cloutier on every lap the pressure became too much, and on lap 17 Cloutier spun off turn 4 while leading. This handed the lead over to Stebbins, with Rivet, Adams and Raymond in hot pursuit.

The only restart of the race had Stebbins and Rivet side by side. Rivet had enough power to wrestle the lead from Stebbins, and on the next lap, Chris McTaggart showed his power passing Raymond for fourth. With the laps winding down, Adams was not waiting any longer, as she made contact with Stebbins and raced by into second. Then it was McTaggart’s turn with an aggressive move in turn 3 to get by Stebbins and move himself into third. Two laps later the checkered was out with Rivet nailing the win, Adams second, McTaggart third, Stebbins fourth and Raymond rounding out the top 5.
