2011 NASCAR Champion Ron Silk Enters North-South Shootout

SOPHIA, NC — Ron Silk from Norwalk, Conn., is among the newest entries into the 11th annual John Blewett Memorial North-South Shootout scheduled to go green for 125 intense laps at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway on the weekend of November 7-9, which is now less than two weeks away.

The early entry list includes 17 drivers, with many more teams expected to add their name to the prestigious $60,000 event before the gates swing open on November 7. Final practice and qualifying takes place on Friday, November 8, with the Tour-Type Modifieds, PASS South Super Late Model Tour, and IMCA Type Modifieds running feature events on Saturday afternoon, November 9th.

“This will be our first time going to the Shootout at Caraway,” Silk noted. “We ran it when it was at Concord (N.C. Speedway) the last two years for (car owner) Eddie (Partridge). We’re looking forward to getting down there and racing. While Silk has not raced at the fast half mile of Caraway with his current TS Haulers Race Team, he did compete several times at Caraway when he drove for the late Roger Hill and co-owner Sandra Hill.

“We really had kind of a trying year,” Silk reflected. “We had a good run at Thompson (season finale October 19). The car ran really well all weekend, so we want to go race again. “I’m a little concerned about some of the rules. The MRS guys can probably run their steel headed motor. I know our motors are down on horsepower from them, so that’s a bit of a concern. But I drive for a really good team, so I’m confident no matter where we go.”

Silk joins Chuck Hossfeld, Austin Kochenash, Nick Pecko and Tommy Cloce as early north entries. Burt and Jason Myers, JR Bertuccio, George Brunnhoelzl III, Andy Seuss, Tommy Neal, AJ Winstead and Gary Putnam are the early entries from the south. Teams still have time before the early entry deadline passes.

Just over the past few days new entries have come in from four time shootout winner Matt Hirschman from Pennsylvania, Valenti Modified Racing Series standout Tommy Barrett from Mass., and both Chris and Charlie Pasteryak from Conn.

Hirschman will make a radio appearance on Monday at 7:00 PM to talk about the NSS and his hopes to earn an unprecedented fifth win. The show is hosted by Patrick Reynolds and can be heard through a link on the web site: www.racersreunionradio.com .
