Timmy Solomito Returning to Riverhead, NASCAR WMT in 2014

Timmy Solomito of Islip, NY will return to Modified racing full-time at Riverhead Raceway driving for Wayne Anderson next season.

Solomito replaced Ted Christopher in the #15 Eastport Feeds car at the start of 2013. He finished the season at Riverhead with five wins and a second place points finish. He won three times in Legend Cars and was second in points again.

“Riverhead always has some real tough competition to race against. (Its) always a big accomplishment winning a race against Ryan Preece or Howie Brode. Racing at Riverhead sometimes can be a survival deal and being consistent. Sometimes you don’t have to win all the races to win the championship. Some nights you have to look at the big picture.”

Solomito will continue a partial  NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule at Riverhead, Stafford and Thompson.

“(I’m) hoping to do as many tour races as possible,” Solomito said. Solomito will continue driving his father Jerry Solomito’s #89. He will also have a second car available. “Wayne (Anderson) built a new car for some races as well,” Solomito said.

Solomito would not commit to racing at the UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona in February, citing sponsorship and the uncertainty of the cars would be prepared.

Team sponsors include Eastport Feeds, AJ’s Painting, American Tent, Axel Anderson’s Truck Repair, Bold Worldwide, and Crescent Duck Farms.

Solomito finished 10th at Thompson in his second NWMT start. The Icebreaker was the first of six races.

“I really like Thompson, Solomito said. “I love the banking and the speed. I wish I could run there more often.”

“We had a pretty good season,” Solomito said. “(I) felt like we had some good runs on the tour for the year. Led a majority of the laps at the Riverhead tour race only to get passed by one of the best in the business. We ran in the top 10 at Thompson and I feel we can build on that. I just need some more seat time on bigger tracks. I really would like to bring home a top-five this season on the tour at Thompson or Stafford.”

The best performance of the season came at Riverhead on September 14th. Solomito won his first career Coors Light Pole Award for the Green Earth Technologies 200. He led the first 176 laps before finishing third behind race winner Ryan Preece and former Riverhead track champion Justin Bonsignore.

Solomito’s season ended last month in a Legend Car, with a Turkey Derby victory at Wall Stadium Speedway.

“(The) Legend win at Wall was awesome, my first win out of my home track of Riverhead. One of the coolest tracks I’ve ever been to. Have a really good team. (I) couldn’t do it without the Strumpf family and Chris Busick! They give me the best equipment and car each and every time it hits the track!”
