Brett Gervais Earns First Late Model Win on Harvest Night
Barre, VT – Second generation driver Brett Gervais of Island Pond earned his first career Thunder Road Late Model win during Harvest Equipment night on Sunday, June 22. Thunder Road has not seen a repeat winner yet this season as there have been fifteen different winners across all three divisions so far in 2014.
Gervais followed Trampas Demers up to the front after starting in the fifth position in the 50 lap Late Model event. Demers got to the point on lap 12 with Gervais right on his back bumper. Just seven laps later Gervais made his move to the inside and the pair banged door-to-door coming out of turn four. Gervais got the advantage and cruised to the win over the final 30 laps. Demers held off John Donahue to take second. Jason Corliss finished fourth followed by Eric Chase. Jim Morris, Joey Laquerre, Eric Badore, Derrick O’Donnell and Dave Pembroke completed the top ten.
Joel Hodgdon of Craftsbury led flag-to-flag in the caution free 35 lap Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature. It was his third career Tiger win. Hodgdon built a sizable lead at the beginning of the event, but Mike Martin reeled him in during the final laps. Martin made a run in the final two laps but came up just short at the line. Hodgdon and Martin were joined in victory lane by Doug Crowningshield in third. Current point leader Jason Woodard took fourth while Brendan Moodie rounded out the top five. George May, Jeff Bousquet, Christopher Pelkey, rookie Caleb Nelson and Cameron Ouellette completed the top ten.
Tyler Austin became the second driver of the night to earn his first career feature win. The youngster from East Calais used the outside lane to get around Marcel Gravel after a fierce battle in the 25 lap Allen Lumber Street Stock event. Jadon Perry completed the podium and he was followed across the line by his brother Jamon Perry and Bunker Hodgdon completing the top five. David Whitcomb, Tommy Smith, Alan Maynard, Garry Bashaw and Jamie Davis rounded out the top ten.
Thunder Road International Speedbowl opens its gates for the sixth time of 2014 this Thursday, June 26 for American Racer night. All three divisions plus the Rough Riders will be in action with a 6:30pm post time.
