Orange County Up Next for KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series

Fast 3/8 Mile Promises Great Action and Excitement

There only two events left on the Southern Modified Race Tour’s KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series schedule and things have tightened up at the top in the chase for the right to wear the first crown as the series Champion.

Tim Brown’s win at Ace Speedway coupled with Burt Myers bad night moved the Rural hall, NC driver to within 10 points of Myers. Jason Myers ranks third in series standings, 63 points behind his brother. Those three drivers will decide the title between themselves. Bobby Sheffield ranks fourth in standings on the strength of several top five finishes. Spencer Davis and Jeremy Mayfield are locked in a tight battle for the 5th spot in standings with Davis only 10 markers ahead of former NASCAR Sprint Cup driver, Mayfield.

The Orange County Speedway event this weekend is a “statement” race for the new series. Car counts have been strong in this inaugural season but this is the final Modified race in the area this season. “Fans shouldn’t miss this last chance to see their local favorites duel close to home”, said SMRT Series Director Randy Myers. “These guys have put on some great racing this season and every one of them should be proud of their accomplishments. For a “new” series to come out of the box this strong is a testament to all the teams and the series sponsor, KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink” Myers said.

The field for this event is shaping up nicely and included series regulars, Brown, the Myers Brothers, Davis, Mayfield, Sheffield, Johnny Sutton, Jimmy Wallace, Zach Brewer, Mike Speeney, Tommy Neal and Mike Norman along with a couple of first-timers for the tour. A. J. Winstead has filed his entry along with Jeremy Gerstner. A complete entry list will be posted later.

The “Fall Brawl 125 at OCS” marks the first trip back to the ultra-fast, high banked 3/8 mile oval in Rougemont, NC since the Spring of 2009 when Charles Kepley held the “Josh Jenkins Memorial Frostbite 150”.

Grandstands open at 5:00 PM and qualifying starts at five as well. A big autograph session follows qualifying and racing starts at 7:05 PM.
