‘A Dream Come True’ for Talman

Oxford Driver to Make NASCAR WMT Debut

Sunoco Modified regular Troy Talman of Oxford, MA will make his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park  this weekend. “I’m really grateful for the opportunity and I have to thank friends, family, Mike Boehler, my sponsors DCU, B&G Toys and Trains, and NAPA of Ayer  for the opportunity and I’m not going to let ’em down,” Talman said.

Talman said the ride was available after a part-time Valenti Modified Racing Series deal did not materialize.

“I think it all came about a couple of weeks ago actually,” Talman said. “Me, my dad and Mike (Boehler) were kind of talking and just put the deal together I guess. … It should be a really good experience. (The) car’s good, motor’s good.”

The BRE Racing team has six NASCAR Modified championships to its credit with ‘Bugs’ Stevens (1966-68), Wayne Anderson (1994) and Tony Hirschman, Jr. (1995-96). A host of drivers have piloted their cars including Fred DeSarro, Leo Cleary, Ron Bouchard, Kenny Bouchard, Mike McLaughlin, Doug Heveron, Tommy Cravenho, Jr., Ryan Preece, and Ted Christopher.

“They’ve got a lot of knowledge,” Talman said. “They’ve been on the tour for a real long time. They’ve had a lot of great drivers in it, dating back to Fred DeSarro in the 70s. Len Boehler, he’s a legend, just thankful for the opportunity and looking to make the most out of it.”

A former Lite Modified winner at Thompson, Talman will be racing at a familiar track.

“I feel like I know Thompson really well,” Talman said. “I don’t think they will be a huge difference between the SK and the tour car, but they definitely have a lot of stiff competition, a lot of great, talented guys. Just want to get as many laps in as we can, keep my nose clean, come home with the car in one piece and be competitive out there.”

A former Legend Car and SK Light Modified® driver, Talman moved up to the SK Modifieds this season.  He competed at Stafford and Thompson  until June 20, when he suffered a broken wrist. He missed a month of racing before returning at the end of July.  He is tenth in points entering the season finale. Supporters of the No. 3 Sunoco Modified include M&M Auto Body, Max’s Motor Sales, Harvest Moon Health Foods of Putnam.

“It’s been a season to forget, really,” Talman said. “Just it didn’t start out good with the Icebreaker. The motor broke and then went to the Sizzler and got into an accident, broke my wrist, which kind of really derailed the season. Had to take a month off, but on the bright side things are going to get better.”
