Peters Ready for Sophomore Season

John Peters will begin his second season in the Pro Series division at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME.

Last season, Peters got to race against his three favorite drivers David Oliver, Dan McKeage, and Bill Rodgers. “I’ve been fortunate enough in my one season in the Pro Series to have had close-quarters racing with those particular guys, which has already been pretty neat,” Peters said.

Peters would tell you that his rookie year certainly came with its share of tribulations. “We came out of the box pretty solid and were competitive on opening night, especially before we got caught up in a wreck, which happened quite a bit with six DNFs. Fortunately the accidents that took us out of races weren’t of our doing, just products of jam packed short track racing.”

Peters and the team hit a lull during the middle of the season trying to get the car straightened back out and it took a while for himself as a driver to fully recognize what he needed in the car to be quick enough to compete at a higher level. “My team never gave up all throughout the season and we (had) two really strong runs to end out the season, and would of had a runner-up finish in the finale without a late race yellow with five to go.”

Peters went Wiscasset (ME) Speedway a few weeks later, where he would pick up a win in the Pro Stock division. “That was the best, most redeeming feeling I’ve ever experienced behind the wheel.”

With Peters returning to the Pro Series, the team is planning to run the full schedule at Beech Ridge. He  may run the Granite State Pro Stock Series event at Star in September and another race at Wiscasset.

His goals are to get one win and a top ten finish in the points.

“We made huge improvements on the speed of the car towards of the end of the season and that gave us the ability to continue to build on what we have over the offseason to hopefully come back to the track in May with the ability to compete at a high level. We still have to stay realistic however because the competition is just that strong. We may not be as fast as we would like right away but we know that going in and are ready to work.”

All of Peters sponsors will return for the 2015 season including his primary sponsor Runtal Radiators. After graduating from Westbrook High School, Peters will head to college to major in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in communication.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway will have the Pro All Star Series on Saturday May 2. The first NASCAR Whelen All American Series race will be held on Saturday May 23.

Peters began racing Go Karts at four years old. Peters ran in Go Karts for five years. He took a break for six years and returned in 2012. He raced in the Beetle Bug Junior Varsity division. He would go on to win the championship that season at only 15, which made him the youngest champion at Beech Ridge.

Peters moved up to the NELCAR Legends. He won seven races and finished third in points.
