Rossi Rules CSP Father’s Day Classic!
PEORIA, Ariz. (June 20, 2015) – Reigning Western World champion Matt Rossi captured his first USAC Southwest Sprint Car feature win of the year by racing to victory lane in Saturday night’s Fifth Annual Father’s Day Classic main event.
While Rossi took the top spot in Sprint Car action, other winners on the night included Garrett Funk in IMCA Modifieds, Matt Martinez in Pure Stocks, David Harrington in Renegades and Kenny Hilton in Micro Sprints.
After starting sixth, Rossi assumed command when race-long leader Michael Colegrove flipped out of the lead on the 26th circuit. Colegrove was transported for observation.
Rossi paced the final handful of laps to take the win ahead of Charles Davis, Jr., with Stevie Sussex, Mike Martin and Bruce St. James rounding out the top five.
Garrett Funk rallied from the 12th starting position to capture his first 9th World Vapor IMCA Modified feature win on the year, taking the checkered flag ahead of 15th-starter Shawn Zelenka with Joey Moriarty, Mike Strobl and Jason Noll rounding out the top five.
Matt Martinez advanced from fifth to reel off his third consecutive Arizona Differential Pure Stock win and seventh of 2015 at CSP ahead of pair of Madrids and a pair of Wrightmans with Speedy and Zack Madrid in second and third and then Michael and Marlowe Wrightsman filling out the top five.
Defending Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegade champion David Harrington raced from fourth for his first win of the year ahead of Mark Kilian with Ben Soboski, Jason Crowe and Daniel Romero also in the top five.
Kenny Hilton became the sixth consecutive different winner in Micro Sprint action by racing to the stripe ahead of Cody Batten, 11th-starter Paul Martin, Kyle Huttenhow and Ryan Walter.
Action resumes at Canyon Speedway Park with the Mid-Summer Classic on Saturday night, July 11, featuring the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades, Micro Sprints, Dwarf Cars and AMA Mod Lites.
