Spencer Davis Back Home in PASS SLM

LOUDON, NH — Spencer Davis of Dawsonville, GA has run many Super Late Models races in his young career. His second race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be Sunday’s AIM 60.

“We went out that first round, shook down the car, kind of got a feel for the track, and just came into make sure everything was good, Davis said. “… There’s one or two things that might shake or bump loose. We wound up first practice 14th, definitely left something on the table, but coming to a track this big for the first time in a Super is definitely, definitely something you need to take a little bit easier. But the car so far so good. Mr. Freddie Query’s given me an awesome car. We’re trying one or two new things and we got my old crew chief back here on the crew, Micky Cain, and some of the northern Modified crew is with us here this weekend too.”

The No. 129 car had a problem with a rear windshield brace after the first practice session on Saturday afternoon. “We’ve gotta brace the car up just a little bit more to accommodate the higher speeds, more downforce, more pressure on the body.”

Davis is enjoying his return to Super Late Models compared to his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour appearance last July.

“This thing is 100 times more fun than a Modified. I think we’ve run about the same times. It just feels a little bit slower, but man just the corner speeds here are unreal in these cars. Realistically I think if everything was turned right you could flat foot it around here.”

33 cars are entered for the inaugural Pro All Stars Series race. Former NHMS winners Ted Christopher, Kelly Moore, two entries from the NASCAR K&N East Series David Garbo, Jr., and Dalton Sargeant, and two cars from Kyle Busch Motorsports are in the field.

“Both KBM cars are going to be hard to beat. Really with any driver in it those cars in general are just really hard to beat. You’ve got Teddy Christopher here in the Mulkern Racing 18, you got guys racing just about everything DJ Shaw he’s here and the Wauters car. Really just PASS in general is real tough competition and real excited to get some more laps out here.”

Davis has an expanded Super Late Model schedule remaining. “We’ve added some more races to accommodate our time off. Try to get back into the swing of things, since be basically taking a year’s siesta from ’em but were back ready to hit it hard go after some wins.”

“These cars I feel right at home. That’s what I’ve been racing basically my whole big car career is fendered cars. It definitely showed at Speedweeks. We had one of the cars to beat in both series Pro and Super Late Models and no matter where we go whether I’ve seen the track or not, we’re always right up front and this one’s a little bit different, little bit different track.

“I’m definitely not going to say I’m scared of it ’cause I love these bigger tracks, but I just gotta work into it easy, but you’ll see us right there I the top five before practice ends and hopefully over on into the race.”

He will also continue in the Susan Hill No. 79 Modified across the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, and Tri-Track Modifieds

Davis finished tenth in the 2013 Oxford 250 and is considering entering this year’s race on August 28.

“I think we’ll most likely make the trip back up to Oxford. Last time there we had a real stout car; real fast just got stuck on the ill end of the pit strategy. Came in a little bit too early, but came out there with a top 10 finish and definitely can’t wait to get back. It will be a different car, different crew chief, different year, but more than ready to go back and try to get that Oxford 250.”

“I’d definitely like to think Ruud Heating and Air, Rheem Heating and Air, Overnight Wraps, Davis Poultry Processing Equipment, Core Race Products, Parts City Auto Parts, Hamke Race Cars  and all of my crew Freddie Query, Micky Cain, my dad Scott, my spotter Dylan Kopec and everyone else that comes along for support.”
