Phil Scott Running For Governor In Vermont

IMG_1608Phil Scott has been very busy. While he is the Lt. Governor in the State of Vermont, Scott races in the Late Model division at Thunder Road Speedbowl. Scott is also in another race. He is running for Governor in the State Of Vermont.  Scott has been very busy in the last month with campaigning.

Thunder Road Speedbowl has been up for sale.  Certainly as a Vermonter and Scott growing up in the town of Barre where Thunder Road Speedbowl is located. Thunder Road is part of the social fabric of Central Vermont and in the state of Vermont in general.  “ There’s a rich history here and no one wants to see it end.  I am thrilled that Tom (Curley) and Ken (Squier) have that mindset. It would certainly be easier for them to sell it off for some sort of development but it’s important to them as well. This is part of their life. It’s so important for most of us the multi generations that are sitting up in the stands. The multi generations that are here racing. This is a fixture in everyone’s life. I am hopeful that they can find the right buyer that will continue the tradition.” Scott Said

Scott has been racing for 25 years but he started working on race cars when he was 16 or 17 years old working on Robbie Crouch’s car and for Joey Kourafas. Scott’s mom used to bring him to the track when he was a kid.

Tom Curley has been around racing for many years. Tom Curley is the President of the ACT Tour and also co-owns Thunder Road Speedbowl with Ken Squier. “ I think all of us that have either raced with him or for him understand that we have this love/hate relationship with him and he has down so much for racing in the Northeast but there are times when it’s a struggle. We all have had those battles. I certainly respect him and his fiestyness and his ability to run a great show. Nobody can run a show like he does.” Scott Said

There are two other race tracks in the State Of Vermont, Devil’s Bowl Speedway and Bear Ridge Speedway. Scott feels with any type of tourism opportunity that he can find and continue with is important to the State Of Vermont. “ Every single business is important to Vermont. In fact that is my platform. I think that we need to invest more. I think we need to pay attention more to try to grow the economy and it’s something this is a piece of. This is a business too and so we have our challenges. A lot of Vermont is special to many. We need to market that. We need to grow that. We need to pay attention to that. We need to create some laws that will help incentivized that in many ways. You know a lot of Vermonters are struggling to make ends meet. Working 2 or 3 jobs. You see that here in the pit area and we need to make a better life for them so we need more opportunity and we need to pay attention what’s really important.” Scott Said

Thunder Road Speedbowl will return to action this weekend on Sunday June 12th with racing kicking off at 2:00 P.M.
