Championship contenders to parade Indy cars on San Francisco’s famous Embarcadero

• Fans are invited to see cars, drivers and Astor Cup at PIER 39

WHAT: Verizon IndyCar Series championship contenders Simon Pagenaud and Will Power will pilot their competition Indy cars along the Embarcadero roadway in San Francisco with the championship trophy, the Astor Challenge Cup, leading the field in a two-seat Indy car. The series culminates its championship this weekend at Sonoma Raceway with the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

WHEN:
• Thursday, Sept. 15, 11:45 a.m. PT
• Event will be followed by a media luncheon at Fog Harbor Fish House at 12:30 p.m.

WHO:
• Simon Pagenaud, No. 22 Hewlett Packard Enterprise Chevrolet, points leader
• Will Power, No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, trails Pagenaud by 43 points

WHERE: PIER 39, Beach Street & The Embarcadero, San Francisco, Calif. 94133

DETAILS:
• The drivers will begin the parade route at 11:45 a.m. and end at PIER 39
• The drivers, cars and trophy will be parked in front of the PIER 39 plaza for photo opportunities
• Boudin Bakery will present a replica Astor Cup trophy made of its renowned sourdough bread
• Media are invited to join the drivers for a luncheon at Fog Harbor Fish House at 12:30 p.m.

RACE FANS: Bay Area race fans are encouraged to cheer the drivers on along the Embarcadero, and are invited to see the cars and drivers at PIER 39 at noon.

PARKING: Media parking is available at the PIER 39 Parking Garage, 2 Beach St., San Francisco, Calif. 94133. Parking will be validated.

RACE EVENT: This is the 11th consecutive year that the Verizon IndyCar Series championship will be decided in the final race of the season. The GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma is Sept. 16-18 at Sonoma Raceway, and will air on NBCSN at 3:30 p.m. local time. Tickets can be purchased at sonomaraceway.com or by calling (800) 870-7223.
