Expanded “Road to the Oxford 250” Returns for 4th Year in 2017

OXFORD, ME (December 24) – Oxford Plains Speedway owner and Pro All Stars Series (PASS) President Tom Mayberry announced today the continuation of the “Road To The Oxford 250” program in 2017.  Celebrating its fourth year in 2017, the groundbreaking “Road To The Oxford 250” concept will expand to give racers across the continent the chance to compete in short track asphalt racing’s biggest event.  As mentioned with the announcement of the Speedway 660 event over a month ago, competitors from Canada and the United States will have opportunity to race for guaranteed starting spots, while keeping the focus on the 250 throughout the season.

The 2016 Oxford 250 saw droves of race fans from across North America and over 60 Super Late Models make the annual August trek to Oxford Plains Speedway, making this one of the most successful editions of the venerable race in over a decade.  Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Pelham, NH, a winner of a “Road To The Oxford 250” qualifier in 2016, captured the checkered flag and took home nearly $30,000 for his winning efforts.

“This year’s race was a great event and once again proved that the Oxford 250 is one of the premier events in all of short track racing,” said Mayberry.  “The ‘Road To The Oxford 250’ has grown every year since we first started it in 2014 and this year’s will be the biggest yet.  We will be able to keep the 250 in focus throughout the year and, while there will be several spots offered through the program, many of these will not have to be used since most of those competitors will advance through the famed heat races.  The ‘Road’ will not reduce the number of starters that will be able to advance through qualifying.”

Who Can Stop Erick Rudolph Inside Allentown’s PPL Center this Weekend? Top Drivers Get Two Chances to Score Indoor Three Quarter (TQ) Midget Championship

ALLENTOWN, PA December 26, 2016 . . . Indoor Auto Racing Series champion Erick Rudolph has a date with destiny over the Friday, December 30 and Saturday, December 31, 2016 weekend at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. The dirt Modified stock car standout from Ransomville, N.Y. has the opportunity to tie and surpass Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct., for most Len Sammons Motorsports Productions (LSMP) Indoor Series Three Quarter (TQ) Midget feature wins.

If Rudolph should sweep the Allentown weekend, he would end the season second in northeast feature wins with 26 victories! It would also put him three-quarters of the way towards a $10,000 bonus offered by Bob Hilbert Sportswear of Boyertown, Pa. To pocket the challenge money, Rudolph would only then have to win the Indoor Series finale inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, January 28th to pick-up the ten grand!

Rudolph’s victory earlier this month in the series opener on December 10 at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J., was the seventh of his Indoor TQ Midget driving career. Christopher has previously amassed eight, the most recent of which was two years ago, also inside the Trenton arena.

USAC Unveils Lightning Sprint National Championship Beginning in 2017 Season

USAC, the largest and most diversified professional sanctioning body in the country, announced a new National Championship Series beginning in 2017. The Speedway Motors Lightning Sprint National Championship will be added to a historic lineup of prestigious titles for 2017.

“With the many clubs across the country to be unified in rules and procedures, it’s a pleasure to create a program that enables many to pursue a championship with USAC,” USAC National Series Director Levi Jones said.

Lightning Sprints are an open wheel car with a motorcycle based power plant and wings. A winged division will be unique within USAC as a majority of the existing classes are wingless. These cars are capable of producing 200 horsepower and utilize much of the same construction and components that USAC Midgets do. Drivers will compete on many of the same sized tracks across the country as well.
