2016 ATQMRA Awards Banquet February 5

January 11, 2017 — The American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association will have its annual awards Banquet Luncheon on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, Pa from 11 am to 3 pm. Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP to Karen Sload at her email address The Banquet will honor 2017 ATQMRA Champion Matt Janisch for his second championship and Mark Yoder for winning the coveted ATQMRA Rookie of the Year award. The organization is actively preparing for the Annual Motorsports Show and yearbook ads are currently due.

After an amazing season where Janisch set a new modern standard for performance in the ATQMRA points paying races Janisch parked his 48 Yuhas car in Victory lane six times out of the ten points races in 2016.

Mark Yoder earned the coveted ATQMRA Rookie of the Year honors by racing consistently all season long and finishing fifth in the final overall tally.

New Clay Surface Ready for 2017 Season at Grandview Speedway; A Few Minor Rule Changes in Place and a New Division of Stock Car Racing Being Considered for 2018

BECHTELSVILLE, PA January 11, 2017 . . . When auto racing gets the green flag for the 2017 season at NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway a fresh clay racing surface will be in place.  “We had a window of opportunity during the second week of November and took advantage of it,” said Assistant Event Organizer Kenny Rogers. “Bashore Trucking was called in to oversee the resurfacing project. With Bashore’s support along with Bill Ryland and a few others we were able to lay down close to 100 truckloads of some of the best-looking clay I have seen in a while.”

The Outlaw Enduros and Blast from the Past Vintage racers will get to test the new surface when they open the 2017 season, the 55th consecutive racing season, on Sunday, March 19th.

Then on Saturday, March 25th the annual free to the public practice session will take place with the track open to all types of racing equipment. Action gets started at noon. Many of the T.P.Trailers Modifieds, Late Models, and Sportsman stock cars will be using the practice day to ready for the official season opener set for Saturday, April 1, 7 p.m.

Gdovic Sweeps LMP3 Podiums at Dubai Autodrome

Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (January 11, 2017) – NASCAR XFINITY Series and Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series driver Brandon Gdovic headed overseas this week to compete in a three-series racing gauntlet at the Dubai Autodrome. His race weekend began on Tuesday with the 24h Proto Series in which Gdovic competed in three different three-hour races behind the wheel of a Ginetta G57 LMP3 (Le Mans Prototype 3). Having suffered through multiple flight cancellations and delays to get from the snow stricken East Coast of the United States to Dubai, Gdovic missed the first practice and made only two laps in the second free practice. Gdovic was undeterred; In his first time competing in this racecar and first time at the Dubai Autodrome, Gdovic swept the podiums posting two second-place finishes and one third-place finish.

The 24h Proto Series is a brand new endurance championship for the new LMP3 cars. While none of the races are 24 hours in length, they are still lengthy at three hours each. Gdovic swapped seats withJason Coupal and CWS Engineering team owner Colin White throughout each event, posting the fastest lap times of any of the three drivers.

Lia to Drive TBR 7NY on NWMT

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (January 11, 2017) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) announced today their plans to compete on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) with driver Donny Lia in 2017. Returning to his roots, Tommy Baldwin will bring back the iconic No. 7NY as seen below.

The car number has a rich history in the NASCAR touring series and the local tracks on Long Island, New York, amassing a combined total 54 wins with the late “Tiger” Tom Baldwin, Sr.

Lia, a two-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion (2007 and 2009) and Long Island native, brings a wealth of experience to the team. With a career dating back to 2001, Lia raced Baldwin on the Tour.

Winter Showdown to Have Online Broadcast on

For the second straight year, the richest pavement short track race on the West Coast will be making its way into living rooms across the globe in February. The 3rd Annual Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park (CA) will be broadcast via a live pay-per-view broadcast on and SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series officials made the announcement on Wednesday following a successful inaugural broadcast of the event in 2016.

“The Winter Showdown continues to grow each year and we are grateful to have provide a service to the fans and family that can’t make it out to California,” said SRL’s Larry Collins. “This year’s event will once again feature the nation’s best Super Late Model drivers, so if you are unable to see it live and in person, has the next best option. The Countdown is on to the 46th Annual DIRTcar Nationals

Super event to draw dirt racing’s biggest names – and more!

CONCORD, N.C. – January 11, 2017 – In just a little more than 30 days, the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series will embark on a new season and renew the stakes at one of dirt racing’s biggest shows. The 46th annual DIRTcar Nationals, from February 14-25, offers 12 action-packed days of racing featuring multiple series.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, accompanied by the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, will compete for the coveted Big Gator trophy through five days of sprint car racing. The World of Outlaws, succeeding the All Stars with three days of racing from February 17-19, will make its 34th appearance in 14 years at Volusia Speedway Park. The Outlaw sprint cars debuted there in 1981.

Verizon IndyCar Series TV schedule features continuity with ABC and NBCSN

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017) – Continuity and consistency are the highlights of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series television schedule released today.

In collaboration with ABC and NBCSN, INDYCAR’s television calendar will see each race return to the same network where it aired in 2016. The logic behind the schedule is based on continuing to seek opportunities to avoid broadcast conflicts with other major sporting events while giving INDYCAR fans the best possible viewing times.

INDYCAR has experienced year-over-year growth in its television audience each of the past three seasons, leading to a combined 55 percent increase in viewership since 2013.

“Today’s announcement is another key step forward in INDYCAR’s plan of developing continuity and consistency in both our event calendar and our television schedule,” said Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co., the parent of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “We’re extremely grateful to our partners at ABC and NBCSN for their collaboration, which has been instrumental in the increase of television ratings and viewership INDYCAR has experienced the past three years and has the series well positioned to continue that growth in 2017.”

Team INDYCAR set to compete at 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017) – INDYCAR is reaching back to its racing roots by sponsoring 10 drivers at this week’s Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Team INDYCAR consists of 10 drivers competing in the 31st annual indoor midget race that attracts hundreds of racers ranging from weekly short-track regulars and legends to INDYCAR and NASCAR drivers. The week-long competition takes place on the quarter-mile clay oval constructed inside River Spirit Expo Center at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds. The event began Monday and concludes with the climactic championship feature Saturday night.

“Our heritage closely connects INDYCAR with iconic events like the Chili Bowl Nationals and the list of greats who have competed in short-track open-wheel cars for decades,” said C.J. O’Donnell, chief marketing officer of INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “We’re proud to announce the Team INDYCAR contingency award program and our list of entrants competing in Tulsa this week. Friesen’s Big-Block Modified Roots Helped Create NASCAR Ride

CONCORD, N.C. – Jan. 11, 2017 – One of the biggest stars of the Super DIRTcar Series will race full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series come 2017. Sprakers, NY driver Stewart Friesen has partnered with Chris Larsen to create Halmar Friesen Racing for his first full-time foray into NASCAR Racing, he announced Monday. Tommy Baldwin Jr. will be the team’s crew chief.

“We got our feet wet in it last year and the opportunity came to team up with Tommy Baldwin and his operation so it was a no-brainer for us. We combined forces and I’m really looking forward to it,” Friesen said.

Friesen made his NASCAR Truck Series debut last July at Eldora Speedway, NASCAR’s only race on dirt. The ride was supposed to be a one-time deal, but quickly blossomed into five more races for Friesen before the end of 2016. It led to the formation of his new team, which will be based in Mooresville, NC.

Nascar Talent Jeff Earnhardt to Appear at Motorsports 2017 Race Car & Trade Show; Richard Petty, Kevin Olson and Jeff Hammond Also Visiting

OAKS, PA January 11, 2017 . . . Rising NASCAR star Jeff Earnhardt will be part of the excitement at the Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports 2017 Fueled by Sunoco Racing Fuels and Distributed by Insinger Performance Race Car  Trade Show. The three-day show, running from Friday, January 20th thru Sunday, January 22nd, will take place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA. The show, covering 250,000 square feet of hall, offers just about everything imaginable in motorsports.

Earnhardt, grandson of the late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., will be making his first appearance at the 32nd edition of the hugely popular show. He will join seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Richard Petty, FOX-TV’s Jeff Hammond and Hall of Fame Midget racer Kevin Olson as they meet with fans, sign autographs and do interviews.

Jeff raced a limited schedule of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events in 2016 for BK Racing. He has raced in 25 races since he kicked off his Cup career at Richmond International Raceway in 2015. He is expected to announce his plans for NASCAR Cup Series in the very near future.

Chase Dowling Announced as Driver of #15 NWMT Car in 2017

15-40 Connection to Continue Partnership with Rob Fuller for Fourth Year

SHREWSBURY, Mass. (January 11, 2017) – Rob Fuller has announced that 2015 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) Rookie of the Year Chase Dowling has signed on to pilot the No. 15 Chevrolet in select races in 2017 for the team.

“I have been watching Chase out of the corner of my eye for the past couple seasons and I’ve been extremely impressed with what I’ve seen,” said Rob Fuller. “Having worked with the young drivers at the LFR driver development group I believe this would be a great match for us both. This is a high-profile ride and will be a great opportunity for him as well. I think he will also be a great advocate for 15-40 Connection, which is a huge part of this race team. I am highly confident we will continue to be a threat at every race we attend with Chase behind the wheel.”

“LFR will continue to develop and evolve in the NASCAR Modified division,” continued Fuller. “We will shift our focus to customer support and service while staying on top of the cars and accessories we design and distribute.”

Valenti Modified Racing Series Rules Meeting Report

Sunday, January 8 the VMRS held its annual meeting at the Stafford Motor Speedway clubhouse. The turnout of modified teams heard M.R.S. founder and president Jack Bateman discuss the 2017 racing schedule and ground rules for the upcoming season. There are no rule changes for the division and spec motors were unanimously voted out by the owners/drivers in attendance

Traction control was another topic being discussed and the decision was to not allow any form of traction control. Any team found running the device will be disqualified for the entire season.

Bobby Summers of Hoosier Tire was on hand to answer questions and announce prices will not increase from last year. Also in attendance was a member from the SK division that normally competes at the Stafford Motor Speedway and New London/Waterford Speedbowl. Some SK teams are interested in running selected events with the VMRS and would like to have a set of rules adopted so they can compete competitively with the MRS teams. Such rules may be fourth coming shortly.

Tyler Courtney Shines In 2017 Chili Bowl Opener

TULSA, Okla. (January 10, 2017) Indiana’s Tyler Courtney spent his morning unveiling the new #Driven2SaveLives program in honor of Bryan Clauson, and spent his evening driving like him as the pilot of the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7BC raced to his first preliminary A-Feature win in Chili Bowl competition, and in doing so, locks into his first Chili Bowl Championship feature event.

While the win was a very emotional one for the entire Clauson-Marshall racing team, Tyler explained the win simply when asked to put it into words, “Two words. Parked It.”

“Honestly, I think I’m still in shock. I don’t think it’s really hit me yet. This is really cool with a new team, on the so called dream team that Bryan wanted to put together,” said Courtney. “Bryan [Clauson] was the guy that gave me the opportunity seven years ago. He’s a big part of my career and plus, I got to win my first USAC National sprint Car race over him this summer during Sprint Week. That’s something that I’ll always have with me.”
