Barre, VT – Thunder Road International Speedbowl has released its 2014 stock car racing schedule. The schedule features 18 events from the end of April through the beginning of October, as is tradition at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement.” The biggest change for 2014 is the switch from Sunday “Twilight” events in early June to the return of the traditional June Thursday night events.
The season will kick off with the 16th Annual Merchants Bank 150 on the weekend of Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. The Merchants Bank event will be the only American Canadian Tour races at the ¼-mile in 2014.
The 52nd Annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic will be on Sunday, May 25. This event will be the first of the 2014 Vermont State Championship events. The season will be highlighted by big Thursday nights. The Governor’s Cup 150, the second of Thunder Road’s VT State Championship events, will be on June 26 with the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Fireworks night the following week on July 3.

First, I would like to thank you for all of the well wishes I have received from so many concerned about my recent health issues. The many emails, phone calls, text messages, prayers and thoughts have been very much appreciated. I would be remiss if I did not publicly thank Darla who has been with me for every hour of the past three weeks and continues to care for me as I recover.
I wanted to take this opportunity to review for all our ACT and Thunder Road race teams exactly what has been done over the past three months since the 50th Milk Bowl finally closed our season, and to hopefully provide a positive platform for everyone to become excited, positive, and energized about the upcoming race season.
1. QUEBEC ACT CASTROL SERIES:
As some of you know, I spent nearly 6 weeks in the immediate post season negotiating with Quebec promoters after the sale of Autodrome Chaudiere. The potential of having the Quebec teams split into PASS type Late Models and an unsustainable marketing plan, particularly in the Quebec City region, would have changed ACT type Late Model racing on both sides of the border dramatically. Fortunately, the ACT promoters were very supportive, a group of ACT Castrol teams provided tremendous support, and we were able to work out compromises among all parties. We actually have developed an outstanding program for fans, teams and promoters for the coming year. When the entries begin coming out in a few weeks I think teams from both sides of the border will be very happy with 2013 plans.

Rossi, MacAskill and Christmam Earn Thunder Road Championships
Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr. earned his second big American-Canadian Tour win in a month at the 48th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT. Pole, who won the second annual ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in September, won the first 50-lap segment of the Milk Bowl after missing his fourth career pole award by just 22 one-thousandths of a second. He completed his win by finishing seventh and fourth respectively in the final two 75-lap segments. Pole’s win earned him a check of over $10,000 in the non-point counting event.
Pole sitter Brian Hoar held the lead at the beginning of the third segment as he sped his way through to the front while Pole was stuck in heavy traffic. Once the traffic cleared Pole methodically worked his way to the front and eventually got around Hoar to seal the win with a combined 12 points. Hoar would use his third segment finish of fifth to claim second after a tie breaker with last year’s Milk Bowl Champion John Donahue, who claimed third. The two both finished with 20 points but Hoar’s better finish in the final segment earned him the spot.
Brent Dragon and Joey Laquerre completed the top five, while Patrick Laperle, Eric Williams, Dave Pembroke, Jamie Fisher and Ben Rowe rounded out the top ten. The three segments were won by Pole, Pete Potvin, and Jean-Paul Cyr.

St. Albans, Vermont’s Jason Bonnett claimed the win in the third Bond/WIX Tiger Tour 100 event of 2010 held at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, NH on Saturday, August 21. Bonnett survived four early cautions as he climbed his way through the field from his 15th starting position to inherit second on lap 20 after Joel Hodgdon was spun out of the lead by Derrick O’Donnell. After a three lap battle with rookie Jason Corliss, Bonnett took the lead for good and dominated the remainder of the event.
Tony Rossi claimed second while current point leader Tom Therrien worked his way back to a third place finish after being involved in an early caution. Hodgdon recovered to take fourth followed by Jimmy Hebert completing the top five. O’Donnell finished sixth followed by David Finck, Bobby Therrien, Josh Demers and Jay Webb.
The 100 lap event was completed in one hour and eleven minutes including a short red flag period due to a wild ride by Jason Corliss into a tire barrier off the backstretch on lap 89. Corliss was ok but his car couldn’t continue. The race saw a total of 10 cautions. 21 cars took the green flag with 13 taking the checkers, eight of which completed all 100 laps.

The American Canadian Tour (ACT) Tiger Sportsman division will compete in a mini-series in 2010. The popular Limited Late Model division will have a new tire by Goodyear, an expansion division at the beautiful White Mountain Motorsports Park (WMMP), and a four event Tour at four different race venues.
The opening event will be held on Saturday, June 5 at the White Mountain Motorsports Park ¼ mile oval in Woodstock, New Hampshire. White Mountain was one of the original tracks that helped start the ACT Late Model division touring back in 1998. That series has been going back to WMMP ever since. “We have adopted the ACT Sportsman rules for 2010 at WMMP, and with the large number of these cars at Thunder Road, we are hoping to show our race teams and fans how much fun this division can be for weekly racing,” said Donnie Avery, owner of the family run granite state facility.
The home of the Tiger Sportsman since 1964, Thunder Road in Barre, VT will host the second event on Thursday, July 1. The Tiger Sportsman division generally has between 40-45 teams that compete on a weekly basis at Thunder Road. One of the highlights for the division each season has been the 100 lap events. Brendan Moodie, a veteran of the division, said, “I think it’s great that we have this Tiger ‘mini-series’ for our division. Going to different tracks is not only fun but it presents a great learning experience. We really have to do some homework to find set-ups, and now with three other tracks participating, it will be a level playing field for all the teams.”
