USAC Sprints Slated for 45 Events from Coast-to-Coast in 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana………Following a year of renaissance with a new breed of drivers ascending to the top of the standings, the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship reloads for a 2018 schedule that includes 45 events between the months of February and November.

Leading off the schedule once again for the ninth-straight season is “Winter Dirt Games” at Ocala, Florida’s Bubba Raceway Park on February 15-16-17.  The wintertime defroster begins a season that carries with it a number of tried and true tour staples including Eastern Storm and Indiana Sprint Week.

Eastern Storm expands to six races for the first time with annual Pennsylvania dates at Grandview (June 14), Williams Grove (June 15), Port Royal (June 16) and BAPS Motor Speedway (June 17).  Furthermore, for the initial time, three different states will be represented in Eastern Storm with the 12th edition entering first-time USAC venues in New Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway on June 18 and New York’s Weedsport Speedway on June 19.

Thomas Takes Oval Nationals; Windom is USAC National Sprint Champ

Perris, California………Kevin Thomas, Jr. unloaded his racecar from his hauler last Wednesday night as the man to beat when practice began for the Budweiser “Oval Nationals” presented by All Coast Construction.
When the time came to roll his car back into the hauler following Saturday night’s 40-lap main event, the Cullman, Alabama was a richer man – by $25,000 – and had the hardware to show for it after scoring the victory in the 22nd annual event at Perris Auto Speedway.
Meanwhile, Chris Windom emerged as USAC’s newest AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion, defeating Justin Grant by a mere six points to earn his first series title just one year after capturing the Silver Crown championship.  It was in late August that Windom found himself trailing Grant by 93 points and firmly believed his championship dreams had been dashed.

Western World Brings the Best of National & CRA Worlds to Arizona Nov. 3-4

As the winter months draw nearer, a frost begins to blanket the fields and the chill of the air begins to settle in as much of the country heads indoors.

When the cold front hits, racers don’t fret over the thought of old man winter, frigid temperatures and a frozen tundra of dirt tracks sitting idle.

Instead, racers find another place to play. They’ve all pointed their compasses west to bring us the best of both worlds as the USAC AMSOIL National and CRA Sprint Cars meet head-to-head for bragging rights and the prestige of becoming a “Western World” champion.

Tmez Drifts West for Western World & Ovals

After all, Thomas Meseraull will indeed be heading west when the USAC AMSOIL National and CRA Sprint Cars stop at Arizona Speedway and Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway during the month of November for the 2017 season finales.

The San Jose, California native has been named as the driver of the Reinbold/Underwood Motorsports No. 19 for the Nov. 3-4 “Western World Championships” at Arizona and the Nov. 9-10-11 Budweiser “Oval Nationals” presented by All Coast Construction at Perris.

Meseraull hasn’t had any prior experience for the Reinbold/Underwood team, but this fact hasn’t deterred his success of late as evidenced by what he’s accomplished this season. Meseraull has earned six series wins since 2015, including a pair this season for two different teams. In June, Meseraull was victorious in his second start for the Heffner Racing team during the Eastern Storm trip to Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway. One month later in his USAC debut for Chase Briscoe Racing, Meseraull captured the victory in the Indiana Sprint Week opener at Kokomo Speedway. In fact, Meseraull has driven five different teams to top-five finishes with USAC this season alone!

Ballou Cleared to Race; Begins Season in this Weekend’s #LetsRaceTwo at Eldora

Robert Ballou, the 2015 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion, announced Thursday that he is cleared to race effectively immediately. He will make his return to the series this weekend behind the wheel of his own No. 12 at Eldora Speedway’s #LetsRaceTwo.

His comeback closes an eight-month recovery from injuries he suffered in a vicious USAC/CRA Sprint Car crash in September of 2016 at California’s Calistoga Speedway during the “Louie Vermeil Classic.”

After flipping and hitting the top of the turn one catch fence, the 28-year-old Ballou estimates his car fell 15-18 feet before contacting the track surface. Among his injuries were a C2 fracture in his neck, a burst fracture of the C7 and a compression fracture of T8 vertebrae.

15th “Sokola Shootout” Opens USAC/CRA at Perris Saturday

A tradition dating back to 2001 celebrates its 15th running Saturday night at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway as the “Sokola Shootout” opens the 2017 AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Championship.

The event honors the memory of former USAC and CRA Sprint Car competition director Gary Sokola and his son Mark, who competed in numerous USAC events as a driver. Inaugurated at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz., the event returns to The PAS Saturday.

Tony Jones won the 2001 inaugural, while Jeremy Sherman (2002-2003), Cory Kruseman (2004), Rickie Gaunt (2005 & 2009), Mike Kirby (2006), Damion Gardner (2010 and 2014), Mike Spencer (2011), Nic Faas (2012), Bryan Clauson (2013 and 2016) and Richard Vander Weerd (2015) have been fortunate enough to inscribe their names in the record books as “Sokola Shootout” Champions. The event was not presented in 2007 or 2008.
