The Plan Falls into Place for Charles Davis, Jr., in Freedom Tour Finale

WICHITA, Kan. (August 19, 2017) – Charles Davis, Jr., had a plan in place for Saturday night’s Fifth Annual USAC Southwest Sprint Cars “Freedom Tour” finale atop 81 Speedway’s 3/8-mile clay oval.

It wasn’t among the most diabolical plans, yet a worthy one for the driver of the Massey Motorsports No. 50 RSS Industries/Rod End Supply entry from Buckeye, AZ.

“I said that if I won this thing tonight, I was going to park it in the beer garden,” the Chargin’ one quipped prior to the four-race set’s 25-lap finale. Continue reading ‘The Plan Falls into Place for Charles Davis, Jr., in Freedom Tour Finale’

R.J. Johnson Jets to Freedom Tour Victory at 81 Speedway

WICHITA, Kan. (August 18, 2017) – R.J. Johnson let one get away in Wednesday night’s Fifth Annual USAC Southwest Sprint Cars “Freedom Tour” opener.

He made up for it by racing to victory lane in Friday night’s third round aboard the Michaels No. 77m atop the 3/8-mile 81 Speedway.

The $2,500 triumph in the 25-lapper didn’t come without a perilous moment though, as the reigning series champ hit the cushion going into turn one and biked it severely.  Johnson saved it and went on to win by nearly a half-straightaway over Charles Davis, Jr.

Caney “Freedom Tour” Falls t Rain; Friday’s Race at 81 Still “On”

Excessive rain has forced the cancellation of Saturday night’s scheduled USAC Southwest Sprint Cars Fifth Annual “Freedom Tour” finale at the Caney Valley Speedway near the Oklahoma-Kansas border.

Extensive rain in recent weeks including several more inches this week with additional rain in the forecast for the remainder of Friday have left grounds too saturated to host the event.

The annual series will now wrap up with Friday night’s card atop the 3/8-mile 81 Speedway near Wichita, Kansas, with racing scheduled to go green at 7:30 p.m. Yuma’s Mike Martin has topped the most recent pair of “Freedom Tour” events at 81 Speedway before last year’s round was rained out.
