CLUTE, Texas (March 24, 2017) – Aaron Reutzel closed out the opening weekend of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour with a strong sixth-place finish in the 44th edition of Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s “Spring Nationals” last weekend in Mesquite, TX.

Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action continues for Reutzel and the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team this Sunday night at Moberly, Missouri’s Randolph County Raceway after the $15,000-to-win NCRA Air Capital Shootout at 81 Speedway near Wichita, KS, on Friday and Saturday.

Reutzel’s bid for a second Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour title in three years got off to a rough start after he missed the feature cut in last Friday’s prelim.

Hafertepe Perfect at the Lucas Oil Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals

MESQUITE, Texas (March 18, 2017) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. proved unstoppable at the 44th annual Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals as the Hwy. 79 Collision/Keith Dobbs Motorsports No. 15h sailed to his second victory in as many nights with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Having to bounce back from an inauspicious start that saw Sam slip back to sixth from a third starting spot, the point was held by Johnny Herrera with Justin Henderson in tow.
“You know, I looked like an idiot there early on. I think we fell back to sixth and that’s not like us but we just had it a little too tight early on. I had them make a change after that 305cid A-Feature and we probably shouldn’t have made the change, but it actually made our car great later on in the race,” commented Hafertepe, who also topped the night’s IMCA RACEsaver Sprint Car feature event. “I just have to say, hats off to everyone who helps make this thing happen.”

Sweet Victory For Carney at the Devil’s Bowl

MESQUITE, Texas (October 15, 2016) “To finish first, you must first finish” is very applicable quote from legendary driver, Rick Mears, when talking about the race Saturday night at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway as John Carney II held off several attempts from Sammy Swindell for the win in the 43rd annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

With the rubber down on the Devil’s Bowl, the race was about patience. Falling to second on the initial start, the caution brought the field back to a complete restart as four cars tangled on the front stretch.

Gluing the Lubbock Wrecker Service No. 11x to the hub, Carney was chased the first lap by Sammy Swindell before the caution flew upon completion of the opening lap for Travis Rilat who rolled to a stop exiting the third turn.

Johnny Herrera Unstoppable At The Devil’s Bowl With The Lucas Oil ASCS

MESQUITE, Texas (October 14, 2016) With the engine going south under the bonnet of his machine just over half of Friday’s feature event, Johnny Herrera was a man on a mission; parking his Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 45x in Victory Lane to open up the 43rd annual Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Herrera’s third career National Tour triumph at the famed half-mile, the win puts Johnny at six victories on the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS.

Taking the lead with a high-side pass on Josh Baughman off the fourth turn on Lap 14, Herrera was the second to challenge Baughman during the A-Feature as the No. 17 was challenged early by Martin Edwards who ran the Lanny’s APCO No. 13 in honor of his grandfather, Lanny Edwards.

Reutzel Secures ASCS Crown; STN Up Next

CLUTE, Texas (October 23, 2015) – The year’s primary goal for Aaron Reutzel and the Shark-powered BC Fundz/Basic One Services No. 87 Triple X Sprint Car team has all but been accomplished.

Now, another big goal awaits next weekend; the top step of the podium at I-30 Speedway’s Short Track Nationals.

But first, that primary goal for the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions team; the $60,000 Lucas Oil ASCS National championship.

That goal was finally reached in all reality with a pair of top-ten finishes at last weekend’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway Winter Nationals in Mesquite, TX.

Finishes of eighth and sixth wouldn’t typically elicit need for much celebration for the Dissolvealloy Frac Ball Revolution team. But, when it puts the clamps on a $60,000 title, a quick celebration could be in order.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Wins the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals

MESQUITE, Texas (October 17, 2015) A race of tire conservation in the finale of the 42nd annual Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. raced under the checkered flag with Hoosier to spare for his first Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network win of the 2015 season, and fifth overall win on the year.

The seventh time Hafertepe has visited Victory Lane with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, the Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h took over the lead on Lap 21 as John Carney II saw his right rear tire go to shreds.
Having run down the Coyote Candle Co. No. 74b in traffic, Sam saw a few small chances to make the pass, but instead kept his pace.

Wayne Johnson Devilishly Good in Winter Nationals Opener

MESQUITE, Texas (October 16, 2015) Wayne Johnson picked up his second Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network victory of the season at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway; leading non-stop on the opening night of the 42nd annual Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals.

The second night on a new Eagle Chassis, Wayne was more than pleased with the car’s handling, “I’ve got to thank Mike Long with Eagle Chassis. He’s been talking with me a long time about these cars, wanting me to try one and we did at I-80 Speedway a couple weeks ago and won that race and this is the second night on this car and won again,” said Johnson.
“I don’t know that we had the best car out there. We could have adjusted a little more, and need to for tomorrow but clean air out front makes everything a little easier. I ran the bottom there and I saw Joe Wood once off of turn four, but I drove away, then a caution came out and my guys signaled to me the top was the place to be. I was going to run the bottom of three and four until someone passed me, and when I saw Joe it got me thinking but I was still pretty good down there but this is our second National Tour win of the year, and that just unacceptable to have two wins under our belt coming into the final three races so hopefully we’ll walk away with a few more.”

Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals Next For Lucas Oil ASCS

TULSA, Okla. (October 12, 2015) One of racing’s most legendary dirt tracks, the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas is next for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network with the 42nd running of the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17.

A step closer to a possible $60,000 prize, Aaron Reutzel leads the way into the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals with a 45 point advantage over the No. 45x of Johnny Herrera. Far from comfortable breathing room, Reutzel has place third in National Tour competition at the Devil’s Bowl; doing so in the 2013 and 2014 Winter Nationals.

For Herrera, the Devil’s Bowl has been a roller coaster of finishes, but in those, two have been at the top of the podium in 1996 and 2013. In all, Johnny has placed on the podium five times with his two wins joined by two seconds and a third.
