Stafford to Utilize Jet Dryer Over Sizzler Weekend
Stafford Springs, CT — April showers bring May flowers, however inclement weather conditions are not ideal for NASCAR racing. To combat such weather, Stafford Motor Speedway, in cooperation with New Hampshire International Speedway, has secured the use of a jet dryer throughout the weekend of the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler, April 25 & 26.
“It’s an honor to assist Stafford in opening their NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour season,” asserts Ron Meade, Director of New Projects for NHIS. “The Spring Sizzler is a fabulous event and we’re looking forward to it.”
A crown jewel of NASCAR, the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler draws fans from across the Northeast, a fact that influenced Stafford’s decision to obtain the jet powered dryer.
“The Sizzler has evolved to become one of the premier events in all of NASCAR,” states Mark Arute, Stafford’s CEO. “We owe it to our fans and competitors to do everything in our power to insure timely completion of this event. We’re extremely grateful to the Bahre family for allowing us the opportunity to use their jet dryer.”
The trailer mounted Westinghouse J34 jet engine produces discharged air at a temperature between 650 and 700 Fahrenheit, a temperature that greatly decreases drying time of a damp track.
“We estimate the jet dryer cuts drying time in half,” relays Dick Girard of Speedway Safety Service who maintains and operates the jet dryer. “We’re excited about coming to Stafford, particularly over Sizzler weekend. Hopefully the weather will be superb and we’ll get very little track time”
Beyond drying a damp track, the use of the jet dryer will aid Stafford’s noted Simpson Safety Team in prompt removal of debris.
“In the event we’re faced with an abundant amount of debris, whether it be marbles or other substances, having a quality jet dryer at our disposal will quickly move the show along,” says Arute.
Tickets for the 27th edition of the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler are now on sale. For tickets or information call the Speedway Box-office at (860/684-2783).
