Brett Bodine Returns to Stafford Motor Speedway July 17th
Stafford Springs, CT — NASCAR Winston Cup Series regular Brett Bodine will revisit the Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday night, July 17th. Bodine’s visit coincides with the ‘Stafford Salutes NASCAR at 50′ program and its’ selection of the 50 Greatest Modified Drivers of All-time, of which Brett is included.
Bodine, driver of the Paychex Ford Taurus, currently ranks 17th in the Winston Cup Series point standings and has amassed one career Winston Cup victory. Prior to his debut on NASCAR’s top series, Brett was runner-up to the Busch Series title in 1986 and has a record of five wins and sixteen pole positions on the Busch Series. His NASCAR Modified record includes winning the coveted Race of Champions at Pocono Raceway in 1985 and accumulating seven Modified triumphs at the Stafford Motor Speedway, including a 1984 track championship.
The middle brother of the racing Bodine family, Brett was voted, as was his older brother Geoff, to this honor by the tabulation of over 30,000 votes during the winter months. The ‘Stafford Salutes NASCAR At 50′ program and its’ voting for the 50 Greatest Modified Drivers of All-time is meant to add a regional flavor to NASCAR’s 50th anniversary celebration.
“This is an outstanding program,” remarked Bodine. “To have this much response is a credit to NASCAR fans across the Northeast. It proves that regional and local racing is still strong with the fans and a viable avenue for sponsors.”
Bodine will formally be acknowledged for his inclusion among the fifty greatest prior to the start of The Winston ‘No Bull’ 100 on Friday night, July 17th. Other ceremonies will include a formal press conference, an autograph session and the ceremonious signing of The Great Wall of Drivers – a photographic tribute to the fifty greatest of all-time.
Stafford hopes to welcome back as many of the elected fifty as possible throughout the summer allowing for official acceptance of their rightful place in history.
“Having a driver the caliber of Brett Bodine become overwhelmed with his inclusion in the fifty underscores how serious the drivers and public has taken this program,” said Cory Posocco, Stafford Motor Speedway’s Director of Marketing. “We welcome Brett back to Stafford and among the company of forty-nine other NASCAR Modified legends.”
