Seekonk DAV Memorial

Seekonk, MA — The D. A. V. Memorial is now history for the 1999 season. It took two weeks to get it into the record books with a rain delay forcing the cancellation of the race last Sunday. This Sunday Mother Nature allowed us the courtesy of a beautiful day as it should always be when there is a race scheduled.

The Pro Stock 100 lapper was a great race with only minor flaws. The biggest disappointment of the day came when race leader Fred Astle was taken out by a lapped car. Prior to that happening, Fred was leading with his car owner Rick Martin running second while Larry Gelinas ran third. The race was a very exciting one as Gelinas worked Martin over time and again, trying him in the inside, then moving to the outside, back underneath him again and so on lap after lap. The fans went wild as Gelinas would bring the nose of the car under Rick’s door, they would go wheel to wheel and just when you thought that Gelinas had him, Radical Rick would once again bounce back. When the caution came out for Astle it moved his car owner up into the lead with Gelinas starting on the outside. Again, the duo went at it for several laps and with the white flag in the air it Gelinas made his move but he just wasn’t strong enough to hold off the home track ( four time) track Champion Radical Rick Martin. Larry Gelinas had set a new record here at Seekonk in time trials just a week ago when he went 12.337.
