1st John 2:18 “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.”
Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus!
To pass that test, you must study and learn the information on which you are being tested. then, you must use a writing instrument to mark the answers on the test. So, in that school test you need two things; knowledge and action. Agreed?
Next question: Name one area in life where you do not need knowledge and action on that knowledge.
I am waiting. Oh, I see. You say every area of life can not be passed if you don’t know what to and then if you do not take action on what you know to do.
Next Question: Why would you think the things of God are any different than any other area of your life? You still have problems with the devil’s attack because you do not have enough Bible knowledge to know what to do. And second, even if you do know, you do not take the action to overcome. You compromise the Word of God by saying things like “If it is God’s Will,” or “I sure hope so,” or “yeah but this is different,” or other silly excuses for not going forth boldly with His knowledge, His power and His Name.
In my time in the Lord, I have made many compromises in my beliefs. I do not do that anymore. I will not sell God short. I will not betray His love for me by not taking the authority He has given to every believer. And I will not cheat Him nor myself by not always studying the Bible to learn more and better how to be continuously victorious in this life, as God intends for every single one pf us who have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Our compromise and laziness is the reason we are defeated by Satan. He has no power left except for that which we give him. In a race, would we let a competitor simply go by us for the win or would we race as hard as we could to achieve the checkered flag for ourselves? Of course not. That is why, when it comes to competition, the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 9:24, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
Dear hearts, you can not win any contest if you never enter it and if you do not do your best in that contest. And you can not do your best if you do not learn and train and then put it into action. A NASCAR Modified can clean house on a Winston Cup car at places like NHIS. But if you restrict the Modified and cut its power, the big, heavy cup car could win. Do not restrict your victorious life by your lack of knowledge and your lack of your faith in action. Every single battle with the devil can easily be won by any believer if the believer discards all compromise, laziness, lack of knowledge and lack of faith with corresponding action. This is God’s Will, that we win.
Next week, examples of the spirit of the Anti-Christ in our lives today.
GOOD NEWS NOTES
DEAR SARAH FISHER- This is the “Even Revs. can be jerks, sometimes” section of the column. Last week I wrote about Sarah’s total lack of respect for the NASCAR Modified division by her poor level of dress to serve as Grand Marshall at Stafford’s Spring Sizzler. Sarah Fisher was not even there. She was in Indy. On the infield, I saw a girl standing trackside with the announcer and asked a track worker if that was Sarah Fisher. He said, “Guess so.” He was wrong and I did not verify his ID. I was feeling pretty insulted at her level of dress. Turns out, the young lady giving the command was from the grandstands, and one of the fine folks with the event sponsor Car Quest. For being a fan in the stands, this young lady was dressed just fine. So, I apologize to Sarah Fisher, Stafford, Car Quest and that young lady. And thanks to good friend and photographer Howie Hodge of Manchester, CT for faithfully pointing out my errors.

WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL FMS 150- David Berghman has taken his place alongside his famous Modified driving father, Bugs Stevens, as a winner in NASCAR Modified racing. Last week at Stafford, Bergman was running excellent even leading a few laps. This week, before the race, one of his crewman told me, “We will be better than last week.” And they were. Berghman stalked leader Todd Szegedy lap after lap and finally with a handful of laps left, Bergman made the move in the Northeast Builders/Emanuello Excavating Chevy owned by Ed Emanuello and took the top spot and his first FMS career win.
Todd was second in the Bob Cuneo Ford to notch the Butler Built Rookie of the Race Award. And Bob is definitely back and it would seem that so is Ford. That is OK because there are a couple Dodge’s soon to debut in the Mod Series, as well. Looks like Chevy is seeing challenges to its exclusivity in the division. Cuneo became famous back in the 70’s and 80’s with the late Bobby V. as driver. They teamed with Geoff Bodine in developing the very successful BoDyne Chassis. They have also become world famous in their work with bobsleds used by the Untied States Olympic Teams. It seems an almost restoration of order to have Cuneo back with the Series.
Mike Stefanik was third over Rob Summers and Nevin George in fifth. Tony Hirschman claimed the Bud Pole but retired on the first lap when involved in an incident with Ted Christopher, which also saw TC done for the night. It was a strange race in the cold and humid weather. The stage may have been set when, in some confusing communications, the tire for the race was changed from what most believed it would be. It was a harder compound and while it wore well, it had problems heating-up enough on the chilly track. It also seemed to aid an unusual time trial session which saw Jerry Marquis and the Boehler team take its second consecutive provisional, Long Island hot shoe Fred Vordermeier miss the cut and even three time Waterford Speedbowl WRS Mod champion Jim Broderick miss qualifying. There were other reasons, as well, but the tire seemed to complicate everything.
About Broderick, as disappointed as he was at not being able to celebrate his return to the Mod Series and the Butler Built Rookie chase for his home crowd, he may be in line for a little more ribbing at home. Friday night, his son Bubba won yet another BMX competition; this time in Albany. And wife Debbie placed fifth in Saturday’s BMX Mom’s race. However, do not think this deal is a problem for Jim and the team. He knows their abilities and they know Jim’s. This will all gel for them before too much time has passed, just as it will for other newer teams.
Jerry Marquis had handling problems all evening and settled for 17th for the Boehler team. This put Rick Fuller in the point lead, 38 ahead of Marquis; tied with Rob Summers at 442. Jamie Tomaino had his best finish of the season for the Perth Amboy Team. He was mystified after the race saying, “I don’t know how we did it, but it is good.” Uh, Jamie, I think you do know. He was speaking about the string of silly problems that has seemingly plagued the team. And then, at Waterford, despite numerous pit stops for the 99, he ended-up with a top ten. I guess the only thing he really could say about it was “Praise the Lord.” Lady driver Rene Dupuis said her car would never hook-up either. However, the Glastonbury, CT driver scored one of her best, coming from a provisional 29th place start, to finish 11th. And Joey Caraccia of Selden, NY was all smiles after bringing the Taylor Racing entry home seventh.

The worst incident of the night saw Mike Ewanitsko hop a wheel and go airborne into the second turn wall. After a careful removal from the Universal Welding 21, he was taken to the hospital. Mike said, “It is the hardest hit I have ever taken. As soon as you get in the air, you stop.” While awaiting the results of the X-Rays, Mike said, “It wasn’t the hit, but more the pain that came when the back-end of the car slammed down.” Maybe the next safety step is to find out how to pad the seat bottoms in the cars??? Anyway, Mike was released Sunday afternoon after the Orthopedic Surgeon determined no surgery was needed on the compression fracture of a lower back vertebrae. However, he will miss a few races while healing and he will be missed. Possibly, Jeff Fuller will be in the car at Nazareth. See the FMS from Nazareth June 3 at PM on SPEEDCHANNEL NASCAR Racing.
LEN BOEHLER MEMORIAL VICTORY CHAPEL- As of Monday, May 13, it was one year since the famous Modified team owner and builder went home to be with the Lord. The family thought it would be nice if we could have a memorial service in Len’s memory and it was an excellent idea. Thanks to the kindness and cooperation of the Waterford Speedbowl management, the entire family, including Len’s widow Janice, was able to attend the service. After opening prayer and Bible Readings, Len’s son and Boehler Racing Enterprises Team owner Mike Boehler spoke to us at length about his late dad and his ideals. We finished with a brief sermon on how Len solved problems and overcame odds and how we are meant by God to do the same. For me, I think this Chapel is one of the more precious memories I will always remember.
NHIS Wrap- EVERYONE LOVES THE NEW TRACK!- Among BGN and Busch North Series competitors, it was unanimous. The job bob Bahre and team have done in the reconfiguration is excellent. Even at Waterford, there was excitement among the Modified competitors as one guy exclaimed, “We now have a bottom shot at New Hampshire!” Another one said, “Man, you know how the Mods run there already. I can’t believe it, but it may get even better.” If you have not seen a Featherlite Modified race at NHIS, you have simply missed-out. The Networks are really missing it by not going nation wide with the FMS races at NHIS.
BOBBY HAMILTON JR DOMINATES BGN FOR FIRST WIN- Wow, super, awesome. Semper Fi. Hamilton would not be denied and had, by far, the best prepared car for the day at NHIS. It is a rare thing in these days of enforced parity to see a car so strong and so dominant. congratulations, Bobby, on the first of many wins to come. Joe Bessey made his first start since this event in 2001 and picked-up 88 points finishing 25th. Busch North drivers joining the BGN competition included Martin Truex, JR who subbed for Jim Spencer in the Yellow Freight Chevy. He timed 13th, but many laps in the pits saw Martin finish 29th.
Former Busch North driver Brian Weber from Long Island plans on running 10 to 12 races with the BGN. NHIS was the first for the www.brianweberassociates.com Contruction company team. However, an accident on lap 18 sidelined Brian’s debut. Mike Johnson in the Copperfield & Co Reactors Chevy was 37th, Andy Santerre in the LesCare Kitchens Chevy also sustained a vibration as did Johnson and was 38th. Jeff Spraker also had the same problem and was 39th ahead of Brad Teague. But how many times can these guys say they beat Jeff Burton, which they did. Burton was 41st in the Gain Ford. And the BGN did not fill their field. Without the Busch North guys, only 37 cars would have taken the green.

BRAD LEIGHTON TAKES THRILLER BNS 125- OK, all agreed? The best race of the entire NASCAR Busch North Series 125 at NHIS. It was a win by the width of a bumper and apparently the new tires are working very well. Bud Pole winner Kelly Moore was third over Dale Shaw who came from 33rd as both he and Tracy Gordon’s fuel did not pass the inspection after time trials. matt Kobyluck took fifth over Mike Johnson and Dave Dion, Mike Olsen, and Billy Penfold.
Hatboro, PA’s Greg Schaefer had his best NHIS finish in 11th and a great run for Bryon Chew in 12th followed by Eddie MacDonald, Mike Gallo and Dennis Demers in 15th. points see Andy Santerre leading after two events by 20 over Leighton who is ten ahead of Dale Shaw. Both the BNS and Mod Series join the BGN at Nazareth this week. The BNS runs Saturday and BGN/Mods Sunday. TED CHRISTOPHER TO RUN LIMITED BUSCH NORTH- : Driver Ted Christopher and crew chief Ralph Solhem have announced plans to run three races on the 2002 NASCAR Busch North Series. An agreement has been reached with Ferguson Electric Company of Plainville, Connecticut to sponsor the team’s #13 Chevy Monte Carlo in the three events, beginning Saturday, May 18 at Nazareth Speedway. Other races include August 11 at Watkins Glen International and September 14 at New Hampshire International Speedway. Ferguson Contractors is a leading electrical contractor headquartered in Plainville and serving many of the major construction projects across southeastern Connecticut and surrounding areas. This is not their first association with Christopher, having been an associate sponsor on his Winston Cup car that raced at Watkins Glen in August of 1999.

PIT ROAD IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY AT THOMPSON- Phase two of the pit road improvement at Thompson Int’l Speedway is in full swing. The design of the new and larger infield pit road was done during the winter months and a portion of the project was completed prior to the ICEBREAKER in April. The second phase includes extending and re-shaping of the exit in order to allow racecars a smoother and safer re-entry to the speedway following a pit stop. The new pit road will be longer to accommodate more racecars and will exit onto the back straightaway of the historic 5/8ths mile oval. In addition to the construction and design of the road itself, considerable construction and re-construction of the concrete walls on both sides of pit road are also a major part of this improvement. Fans and competitors will first see the new pit road when they return to Thompson for the Extreme Family Fun Night scheduled for Saturday, May 25th at 6:00 PM. BUSY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADER AT RIVERHEAD- The annual Memorial Day weekend serves on Long Island as the unofficial start of summer and at Barbara and Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway it signifies a busy doubleheader of great racing excitement. Saturday evening, May 25th, a full card of NASCAR stock car racing will be complimented by the first Demolition Derby of 2002, while a full fledged Enduro program featuring the first ever Ladies Enduro is set for Sunday, May 26th. MERCER TO HOST BIG BUCKS FOR BIG BLOCK MODS- Mercer Raceway Park will be the site once again of the richest non-sanctioned Big-Block Modified event ever held in the history of western Pa. and eastern Ohio on Saturday night, May 18. Sponsored by Hovis Auto & Truck Supply, the Bill Emig Memorial “Legacy Series” will feature three 25-lap Big-Block Modified features each paying $1,500 to-win and $150 to-start. The 360 Sprints, New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modifieds, the Butterfield’s Pub Stock Cars, and a Demo Derby will also be on the card. FORMER MOD SERIES ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, DAVE PECKO, TOOK THE MODIFIED HONORS AT TIOGA SPEEDWAY.
PECKO PICKS-OFF TIOGA- Owego, NY – Vandling, Pa’s Dave Pecko took advantage of an early race crash and captured the 30 lap Modified feature Friday night at Tioga Motorsports Park. Owego’s Bill Chandler led the field to the green flag, and the sparks flew early as contact between Bob Silvernail and John Gage sent Gage spinning to the infield. A restart with no laps completed again found Chandler in front, but as they entered turn 3 Pecko, who had started 2nd, made an outside pass on Chandler and closed the door. With 1 lap on the board contact between Tony Hanbury and 2-time winner T. J. Potrzebowski sent Potrzebowski onto the backstretch grass and Bobby Osgood, with no escape route, reconfigured the left rear of Potrzebowski’s modified. Pecko and Chandler led the field back to the green, and on the following lap Horsehead’s George Kent, defending Modified champ Rusty Smith, and Zane Zeiner, behind the wheel of John Hellmer’s number 4, all moved past Chandler to battle for the lead. Potrzebowski, who was able to continue in his damaged mount, steadily worked his way back toward the front, Pecko maintained control of the top spot, but a fierce battle wa! s being waged between Kent, Smith, Zeiner, and J. R. Swansborough. On lap 10 Campville’s Jeff Ackerman, making his 1st appearance of the year at Tioga Motorsports Park, spun in turn 1, and on the restart Smith and Zeiner moved past Kent into 2nd and 3rd. Pecko went on to lead every lap of the race with Smith, Zeiner, Kent, and former modified champion Lee Sherwood completing the top 5. Heats were won by Pecko, Gage, and Potrzebowski. This Friday night Burger King presents another exciting night of wheel-to-wheel action at Tioga Motorsports Park. Gates open at 5:00 and the green flag flies at 7:30. ARRE WINS ANOTHER TOUGH NIGHT AT WALL- We will be back down at Wall Township Speedway for the racing Saturday night June 1 and then the return of the NASCAR Modifieds in a special Sunday afternoon show on June 2. It will be a preview of what could come next year if Wall receives a NASCAR sanction. Probably the toughest part of June 2 will be keeping GM Tom Mauser from sneaking out of his track-running duties to get behind the wheel of a full Mod. However, back to the Wall Mods. Tim Arre survived to win which saw one heat that had only two cars left at the finish. Maybe Mauser should bring back the paddle that we used to get when were were bad in high school. Hey, if people act like immature kids, the I guess they should be treated like kids.
MY MODIFIED SOLUTION FOR WALL- I have a better idea, actually three, for my friends in the Wall Modifieds: 1. Always, but always, make the prayer at the Driver’s Meeting a top priority. 2. GEAR RULE 3. Drivers, respect one another on and off the track as much as you want to be respected- whether you get it back or not. Love one another as much as God loves you. Simple solutions are always the best. See you June 1. Remember that famous billboard where God said, “Don’t make me come down there!”
WHATTA WEEKEND COMING UP AT WALL TOWNSHIP SPEEDWAY! – There’s a big weekend of action coming up at Wall Township Speedway (formerly Wall Stadium). It all kicks off on Friday morning when the MTV Seaside Survivor series takes to the track to shoot its own version of “The Final Four” . . . in a demolition derby. The gates open at 11 a.m. and the action gets underway half an hour later. Admission is free and one hundred “extras” will get to be involved in the MTV mayhem. Then, on Saturday night (May 18th), it’s back to racing action on the high banks with the Coca Cola Classic 50 for the Modifieds plus four support divisions: The Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, “outlaw” Legends cars, and the pickemup Trucks. Heats . . . the qualifying races (no boring time trials) . . . start at 7 p.m. with the five feature races scheduled for 9 o’clock sharp. And, on Sunday, it’s the rescheduled big demolition derby from April 28th. The smashing and crashing for cash will be preceded by Street Stock and TQ Midget racing action. The gates open at 11 a.m. with the motorized madness getting the green flag at 1 p.m.
WWE SUPERSTAR DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE NAMED GRAND MARSHAL OF STACKER 2 “200” Nazareth Speedway announced today that World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) – formerly known as the WWF – Superstar Diamond Dallas Page has been named the Grand Marshal of the NASCAR Busch Series Stacker 2 “200” on May 19, 2002. Page, a native of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, is one of the most prolific wrestlers in history. He is a three-time World Championship Wrestling (WCW) heavyweight champion, a five-time WCW Tag Team champion and was also a two-time WCW United States champion. In addition, his resume includes a WWF Tag Team title and earning the European championship belt. Nazareth Speedway will host NASCAR racing with the NASCAR Busch Series taking center stage on Sunday, May 19, 2002 in the Stacker 2 “200” as the highlight of the weekend’s activities. Watch such Busch Series notables such as Kenny Wallace, Jack Sprague, Kerry Earnhardt and Randy LaJoie as they battle for Nazareth bragging rights and you never know who you will see around the Speedway, including WWE Superstar Diamond Dallas Page, who will be giving the command for Sunday’s race. MIKE EWANITSKO- This NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series driver sustained a broken vertabrae in his lower back in an accident at the Waterford Speedbowl 150 May 11. BARRY GRAY- This excellent ProStock racer at Monadnock Speedway in New Hampshire is home healing from two fractured vertabrae sustained in an racing accident May 4th at that track. Doctors expect a two month recovery time, but we know prayer and the Lord can shorten that time. GEORGE PERKINS- The father of Angelina Stuart, wife of Connecticut Late Model driver and fabricator Jay Stuart went ot his eternal home on May 1, 2002 at the young age of 62. “KELLEY” THOMAS ATTAYA- At just 38, Kelley went to his eternal home May 5th after a brief illness. He was a big NASCAR fan and served with his mom and dad at the Northeast Motorsports Expo, held each january in Augusta, Maine. He leaves his wife Becky, daughter Cheyenne, step-daughter Sasha Richardson and a brother Tim and parents. Your cards of comfort for the family reach Tim and Cathy Attaya at P.O. JERRY CHALLIS- This long-time timing and scoring staff memer with USAC, IRL and Indianapolis Motor Speedway went to his eternal home May 4th at age 67. Our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all who knew and worked with him.
CAL LaCAPRA- This Sportsman driver at Waterford Speedbowl from Wolcott, CT was a spectator for the FMS May 11, as the division had a night off. He sustained a heart attack and later went to his eternal home at Lawrence Memorial Hospital at age 59. We got to meet and speak with the family while there with Mike Ewanitsko. Cal spent four seasons in the D.A.R.E. Stocks at Stafford and 2002 began his second season at Waterford. He drove the Number 63. Our deepest sympathies to Cal’s family, friends and all who knew him.
