Family Fun Night this Saturday at Thompson
Thompson, CT — With the first holiday weekend of the summer being celebrated this weekend, Thompson Int’l Speedway will present one of its traditional holiday Family Fun Nights on Saturday, May 25th.
This fun-filled event will include three divisions of racing, a spectacular motorcycle jump from World Champion Doug Danger, the return of the Green Mamba jet powered car melt down machine, muscle car burn-outs, a school bus demolition derby and a huge fireworks display.
The racing portion of the program will include Thompson Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks along with the American Race Trucks. Qualifying for these racing divisions will begin at 4:30 PM and the show will open with feature events beginning at 6 PM. For those wishing to make a day of it, the grandstands will open at 2PM so that fans can watch the practice sessions and enjoy the qualifying races prior to the 6 PM start.
Doug Danger will be flying high as he plans to do a motorcycle jump over three school busses parked end to end. This is a preview of a spectacular world record jump that he plans to perform at Thompson in September.
The Green Mamba Jet Car returns by popular demand and will demolish a vehicle by fire from its huge jet engine. This was a major crowd pleaser last year and during the winter months, many asked to see it again. The destruction of the vehicle is a spectacle to watch and the roar of the jet engine is enormous. The Green Mamba is a real crowd pleaser everywhere it goes.
With the end of the school year at hand, youngsters will thrill to the destruction of six school busses in the bus demo derby. It has been several years since the school busses faced total destruction at the Thompson Int’l Speedway and each year speedway management is asked to present this unique form of entertainment.
Smoke will rise from the historic 5/8ths mile oval when the muscle cars report to the burn-out pad in front of the grandstands. These specially prepared cars and their experienced drivers send up smoke shows that are second to none.
The evening will round out with a spectacular fireworks show. These shows have become part of every holiday show at Thompson and fans travel from miles around just to view this excellent display.
The pre-program practice and qualifying of the racecars will begin at 2 PM with the actual Family Fun Night slated to kick off at 6 PM sharp. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be run at the same time on Sunday, May 26th .
Thompson Int’l Speedway will then kick off its regular Thursday Night Thunder series on June 6th . Featured will be five division of racing each Thursday night during the summer months. To make opening night a bit special, the New England Antique Racers will be on hand to combine the best of yesterday and today into one great night of racing.
Tickets for the much heralded Tony Stewart/Ted Christopher Match race will go on sale on Monday, June 3rd . Tickets are priced at $25.00 for adults and only $10.00 for youngsters between the ages of eight and fifteen. Those seven years of age and under are admitted free. Tickets will be available from the track office Monday thru Thursday between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM. Fridays from 9AM until 12 Noon. In a similar event last year, Thompson Int’l Speedway was able to donate five thousand dollars to this very worthwhile cause and we hope that another nice donation to RAC will result from this year’s event.
