Northeast Focus Series Opens Season Saturday
Indianapolis, IN — USAC’s Northeast Ford Focus Midget Car Series gears up for its second season of action this Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Conn.
Defending series champion Michael Sboro, who did not plan to compete in last year’s Northeast region fulltime, may make occasional appearances in the Northeast. Sboro, a native of Watertown, N.Y. now living in Mooresville, N.C., has competed in the Carolina/Virginia region already this season, having led laps Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
The field is wide open as several drivers look to capture this season’s title. Among them are 2005 race winners Nick Wean and Jeff Abold, as well as fourth-place finisher Stephanie Stevens.
Series coordinator Steve Wall is excited about USAC’s visit to Waterford, the first of 12 races on the schedule.
“We have several members looking forward to the Speedbowl,” Wall said. “I believe we’ll be very competitive.”
