Rain Conquers Seekonk Speedway’s Saturday Show
Seekonk, MA — A weekend of heavy rain forced management to pull the plug on Saturday’s night’s scheduled auto racing program at the 1/3-mile Seekonk Speedway oval. It is the sixth straight season that the 61-year old Bay State facility has lost one its May events to inclement weather. At least one evening of racing at the Cement Palace has been affected by rain during the month of May for eight of the past nine years.
With one week of action completed, Westport, MA’s Rick Martin holds a four-point advantage over Rehoboth’s David Darling in the ARC Pro Stock point standings while 2003 champ and fellow opening night winner Gerry DeGasparre, Jr. of Pawtucket, RI holds a two-point lead over 2004 kingpin Glenn Lawton of Acushnet, MA. Street Stock racer John Hanafin of Quincy, MA and Sport Truck ace Mike Cavallaro of Seekonk, MA, also feature winners on May 6, sit atop the standings in their respective divisions. One hundred twenty-four race cars and trucks competed in the track’s first evening of competition.
Action resumes at the Route 6 oval this Saturday, May 20, with a full evening of qualifying and feature events on tap for the ARC Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sport Trucks, Street Stocks, Mystic Pizza-sponsored Seekonk Youth Racing Association, and the Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment-sponsored Pure Stocks.
