Tremont Goes Three-for-three at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN, VT – Forget about Barry Bonds’ chase of Hank Aaron’s Major League Baseball home run record. How about Ken Tremont Jr.’s quest for perfection at Devil’s Bowl Speedway?

Tremont celebrated Father’s Day in style Sunday, driving to his third straight victory in the 30-lap 358 modified feature at the Bowl.

Three-race winning streaks at the Bowl are almost as rare as horse racing’s Triple Crown. In fact, Tremont is one of the few drivers who have been able to accomplish the feat at the fastest half-mile dirt track in Vermont.

By winning Sunday night’s feature, in which he beat Todd Stone to the finish line by 1.390 seconds, Tremont won three in a row at Devil’s Bowl for the fourth time in his career. He also went back-to-back-to-back in 1984, 1999 and 2003. The only other driver to put together three-race winning streaks since 1980 is Don Scarborough, who did it on two occasions (1996 and 1999).

Stone had nothing for Tremont in the latter stages of Sunday night’s feature and had to settle for second, while veteran Ron Proctor had another solid run in the Ron White-owned 27, and came across the finish line third, the second straight week he’s been in the top five.

Vince Quenneville Jr. finished fourth, with Frank Hoard Sr. hitting the top five for the first time this year, grabbing the No. 5 position.

Completing the top 10 were Scarborough, Tim Laduc, Jim Ryan, Ray Hoard, and Adam Pierson.

While Tremont has dominated the 358 modified division, the pro-street stock class has been wide-open, as veteran Carl Vladyka became the third different winner in as many weeks, holding off Carl Cram to record his first win since July 6, 2003.

Cram gave Vladyka all he could handle, but Vladyka hit the finish line just about a car-length in front. Dan Eastman had his best finish of the year, hitting the stripe third, with Jeff Washburn fourth and Donnie Williams fifth.

Bill Duprey drove to his first win of the year in the limited division, breaking Adam Piper’s two-race winning streak. Following Duprey across the finish line were Kevin Elliot and Mike Clarke.

The mini-stocks were also in action Sunday night, with Mike Duclos taking his first win of the year in a 6-cylinder and second of the weekend, as he also made his way to victory lane at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on Friday night. Bruce Taylor Jr. was the first 4 cylinder across the line.

Devil’s Bowl will be back in action Sunday on CDL Night. The limiteds will be running a 30-lap feature, and all other divisions will be in action. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
