Shawn Monahan & Ed Reed, Jr. Victorious
Waterford, CT — With 9-laps remaining, Shawn Monahan passed brother Diego going on to win his second 35-lap SK Modified feature of the year. “Tonight the car was extra-good, and I was extra-determined to win,” stated Monahan. “I knew on that last restart that if I didn’t get by my brother, I was going backwards and fast. Tonight we worked as a team, and held-off two of the very best in Zach Sylvester Dennis Gada.”
Other feature winners were Ed Reed Jr. (Late Model), Dwayne Dorr (Sportsman), Danny Field (Mini Stocks), and Steven Intravaia (USAC Ford Focus Midgets).
In taking down the 30-lap late Model feature, Ed Reed Jr. recorded his 32nd career victory. Reed trailed teammate & car owner Larry Goss for a number of laps before feeling the pressure of a fast-closing Bruce Thomas Jr. “I knew I had to go when Bruce got that close. I got up alongside Larry (Goss), and as usual, he gave me room to race. It was just a fun race like it always is with those guys,” stated Reed following victory lane celebrations.
It took Dwayne Dorr less than one-lap to establish a commanding lead in the Sportsman 20-lap feature. “Last week we had it rough, blowing a motor. I have to thanks my family and everybody else involved for getting me back here this week. The car was just awesome tonight,” said Dorr. Al Stone III was second with Chuck Rodgers in for third.
In Mini Stock action, Danny Field passed Lou Bellisle on a late-race restart and held-off a final charge from Joe Godbout III to claim his fourth main event of the season. “With Joe (Godbout), behind me, I had to make sure that I hit my marks as he’s really fast,” commented Field during post-race interviews. Bellisle rounded-out the top-three.
Nineteen-year old Steven Intravaia celebrated his first-ever feature victory in the USAC Ford Focus Midget event. “I’m loving this,” said the youthful winner. “The Speedbowl is the perfect Midget Track, and you really have room to race here.” Following in the top-three was Ryan Jordon and P.J. Stergious.
