jeffreypaul1.jpgWaterford, CT — Jeffrey Paul beat back a final challenge from Rob Janovic Jr. and captured Saturday night’s 35-lap SK-Modified feature. He grabbed the lead on lap 11 and then survived a host of restarts, the last with six left.

Bruce Thomas Jr. won the 30-lap Late Model race. Other winners were Jack Aquilina (Sportsman), Phil Evans (Mini Stock) and Mark Bakaj (Legends).

Paul took the lead going around Dennis Charette on the lap 11 restart. He beat back two more restart challenges putting a Charette-Dennis Gada battle behind him each time.

The final yellow flew with six left when Shawn Monahan and Dennis Gada, running third and second, made contact in turn three. On the restart, Janovic, who now lead Monahan by 18 in the point race, blasted into second.

Teenager Matt Gallo was third followed by Charette and Jeff Pearl.

Thomas won his seventh feature of the season. Taking command when early leader Ron Yuhas Jr. lost his steering on lap 13, Thomas beat back restart challenges from Ed Reed Jr. and Larry Goss before finishing a half-car length in front of Tim Jordan.

Aquilina, winning for the third time, got into the lead early and run in front of a three-way battle second that eventually went to Al Stone III. Mark LaJoie was third with point leader Dwayne Dorr fourth.

Holding the bottom line, Evans dueled Randy Churchill side-by-side for 10 laps before edging ahead with five left. He then held off point leader Ken Cassidy Jr. over the final circuits to grab his third checkered of the year. Joe Godbout III, Danny Field and Churchill filled out the top five.

It was the third win of the season and the second in a row for Bakaj. He took the lead six laps in, survived three restarts and finished a half-straightaway in front of Brian Quimette. Jason Palmer edged Michale Gervais Jr. for third.
