“Rocket” Roger Brown Returning to Oxford Plains
“Rocket” Roger Brown made national headlines last month by winning the 34th Annual TD Banknorth 250 open-competition stock car classic at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway, and the Lancaster, NH ace is ready to pick up where he left off at the track in Saturday’s Time Warner Cable 100 for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) championship series.
“I’ve got kind of a lot riding on this race,” explained Brown, 28. “We’re only two points out of fifth place on the Tour, we’re leading the Challenge points, and I want an ACT win before the year is over. I think we’ll have a good day if we can qualify for the main event, but we’ll have plenty of cars in the pits to get through first.”
Brown says that in order to win the Time Warner Cable 100, he will have to fend off some stiff competition from a host of veteran drivers and some of the young up-and-comers of northeastern Late Model racing at the historic 3/8-mile oval track.
“There are quite a few guys that have Oxford figured out, and I’d like to think I’m one of them,” Brown said. “But we’re going to see Ricky Rolfe and Travis Adams representing their home track at the front, and Randy Potter and Jean-Paul Cyr from ACT will be flying, too. It wouldn’t surprise me if the young guys like Scott Payea and Joey Pole were up front, either.”
Rolfe and Adams each own a pair of track championships at Oxford Plains Speedway, and are currently first and second in standings. Potter won the ACT Late Model Tour season opener at OPS in April and ranks second overall behind six-time ACT champion Cyr. Payea finished third behind Brown and Oxford regular Dale Verrill in the TD Banknorth 250, and 18 year-old Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr. earned his first career ACT victory at Seekonk (MA) Speedway last weekend.
The Time Warner Cable 100 was originally scheduled to be run on July 7, but was postponed by rainfall to Saturday, August 11 and is now the eighth championship round for the ACT Late Model Tour in 2007. Green flag racing action begins at 6:30pm. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME.
