NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Thompson This Thursday

tislogo2.jpgThompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour swings into the Thompson International Speedway this Thursday night for the running of the annual BUDWEISER 150 presented by the New England Dodge Dealers. Traditionally, this is one of the most popular summer races in New England and fans are ready for another Modified Tour spectacular.

Last year’s winner, Ted Christopher, is hot off a recent win at the Stafford Motor Speedway and he will arrive at Thompson ready to defend his victory of last year. Christopher will be joined by the very best cars and drivers on the Whelen Modified Tour in what is bound to be another in a long line of great “Tour” races at the high-banked Thompson track.

Donny Lia, the current points leader, will be looking to return to victory lane after his June win at Thompson and James Civali will attempt to repeat his ICEBREAKER performance of earlier this season. Mike Stefanik, hot off of a 3rd place finish, will be looking to grab his first win of the 07 season. Many more of the top Modified competitors will also be looking to notch their first win of a season that has been dominated by Lia. The pre-race entry list consists of virtually all of the top “shoes” in the Whelen Modified Tour. Fans won’t want to miss this always popular August night of Modified competition.

Grandstands will open at 2 PM and Modified time trials will get underway at about 5:45 PM. The green flag for the BUDWEISER 150 presented by the New England Dodge Dealers will drop at about 8:45 PM. The complete schedule, which also includes Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions, is available on the Thompson web site at www.thompsonspeedway.com.

The month of August also features a very special outing for vintage and antique racecars and trucks. The dates are Saturday, August 25th for the racecars and Sunday, August 26th for the truck show. Fans are invited to view these classic vehicles up close. The entire pit area will be converted into a paddock area thus allowing fans of all ages to walk freely through the paddock to closely examine each of these racecars and trucks. Many of those on display or on the track have played an important role in the history of both racing and the trucking industry. Antique racecar clubs from all over the east coast will participate. Racecars will have ample track time between the hours of 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM on Saturday. Sunday’s antique truck show will begin at 10 AM and will also be open to for all to see.
