Tim Brown scores Monday victory at Ace Speedway

Altamahaw, NC  – NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver Tim Brown scored the victory on Monday afternoon in front of a packed grandstand at Ace Speedway for his first win of the 2007 season.

Brown led the final 82 laps and beat second place driver L.W. Miller by more than half a second.

It was Brown’s second career Whelen Southern Modified Tour victory and it came before an emotional pit crew that consists of several family members.

“This was a super car and the crew probably spent 20 hours working on it after last Saturday night’s race at Martinsville,” said Brown, who finished fifth in the annual combination race with the Whelen Modified Tour. “This car was ungodly – it was awesome. I am just worn out not only because of this race but because I stayed up working on the car with them. I actually wasn’t working that hard in the car because it was so good.

“We’ve had a good year but the luck hasn’t fallen our way, but tonight it did. This is what it’s all about. I just want to thank NASCAR and Whelen for their support. This victory makes up for a lot.”

L.W. Miller was thrilled with his runner-up finish which helped extend his Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship lead heading into Saturday night’s race at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway.

“We had a good car but it obviously wasn’t as good as the car Tim and that bunch had,” Miller said.

Rounding out the top-five behind Brown and Miller were Brian Loftin, Burt Myers and Woody Pitkat.

Perhaps one of the biggest stories of the night came on Lap 75 when two-time and defending Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion Junior Miller headed to the garage with engine problems en route to a rare 20th place finish.

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour returns to action this Saturday night at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.
