Modified Mania Continues This Sunday at Thompson
Thompson, CT — The exciting conclusion of the Sunoco Modified Mania race program will be this Sunday afternoon at the Thompson International Speedway. Race teams from both the True Value Modified Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will gather at the ultra-fast Thompson Speedway to compete in their events that were rained out on September 9th.
The six-division racing spectacle began under threatening skies on September 9th. Four of the six races were completed before the rains came and the remainder of the event had to be rescheduled. Weather concerns do not seem to be in the cards for this weekend as forecasters are predicting bright sun and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
Back on September 9th, the True Value Modifieds has just received the green flag for their 75-lap feature when the rains came. Andy Seuss had grabbed the early lead, but his early race hopes were washed out. He will return this Sunday and will being the field down for the restart. Behind him will be an impressive field of True Value Modifieds driven by the likes of Kirk Alexander, Les Hinkley, Dwight Jarvis, Richard Savary, Tom Cravenho, Jr., Vinnie Annarummo, Dave Ethridge and many more.
Upon completion of the True Value Modified Series race, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will take to the speedway for a 150-lap event. Donnie Lia will bring the 36-car field down for the start. Lia not only won the Bud Pole award, but maintained his top spot when the starting lineup re-draw was conducted.
The very best of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be on hand in an effort to claim the victory in this extremely important race in the battle for the Whelen Modified Tour championship points. With only three more races on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule, two of which are at Thompson, the 2007 points chase is coming to a head very quickly.
Lia will face stiff competition from Ted Christopher, Todd Szegedy, Tony and Matt Hirschman, Reggie Ruggiero, James Civali, Jimmy Blewett and many more.
Fans holding tickets or pit passes from the original race will have those honored as rain checks. Fan who were unable to be present back on the 8th and 9th of September, will be afforded the “deal of the decade” when they are able to purchase a grandstand ticket to see these two thrilling Modified divisions for only $25.00. A pit pass for those sixteen years of age and older will be available for just $30.00. Youngsters ages 14 and under will be admitted for free.
Grandstand will open at 11:30 AM. Racecars will practice for ninety minutes beginning at 12:30 PM. The True Value Modifieds will go green shortly after 2 PM and will be followed immediately by the Whelen Modified Tour.
