Second Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown is Almost Here

Concord, NC — Friday at 10am, the gates to Concord Motorsport Park will swing open for the second-annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown. The countdown to the race weekend, which will feature various types of racecars from up and down the East Coast, is now being measured in days and hours instead of months and weeks.

Entries are continuing to pour in to the Pro All Stars Series offices. There will be no shortage of top-notch competitors in not only the headlining PASS South Super Late Model class, but also the PASS/Rolling Thunder Modifieds, Legends Cars, Bandoleros, Thunder Roadsters and Allison Legacy cars.

“There is definitely a lot of interest in this weekend,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “The phone has been constantly ringing and people have been calling about all of the races at the Meltdown. From Super Late Models to Legends and Bandoleros to Modifieds, there is a lot of buzz about this race and it’s pretty exciting that it is getting time for it to happen. There are going to be plenty of cars there.”

Teams can register right up until the race weekend starts, so there is no telling exactly who the surprise entries for the race will be until the pit gates open. The pre-entry list for the race weekend though is already very stout. For the headlining PASS South Super Late Model feature, defending race winner Cassius Clark will be back to defend his title against the best of the North and the South.

Current Southern entries include Concord legend Freddie Query, who will be returning to the driver’s seat for the first time in 2007, plus the PASS South Championship combatants Ryan Lawler and Heath Hindman. Also among the early entrants are PASS South regulars Dean Clattenburg, Preston Pelltier, John Batten and Mark Gibson.

The other PASS North drivers who have pre-entered the race include 2007 champion Ben Rowe, two-time champion Johnny Clark, 2007 Rookie of the Year Trevor Sanborn, 2006 Rookie of the Year Alan Tardiff, Mike Rowe, Richie Dearborn, Derek Ramstrom, Adam Bates, Joey Porciello and DJ Shaw.

A few drivers will be representing both the North and the South. Three-time 2007 PASS South race winner Corey Williams and former NASCAR Busch North (now Busch East) Series standout Ryan Moore are entered. Both young drivers are originally from Maine, but now make their living working in the North Carolina racing industry.

The Second-Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will take place Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, North Carolina. The event will be the season-finale for the PASS South Super Late Models and will pay $12,500-to-win. The weekend will also feature events for PASS/Rolling Thunder Modifieds, Thunder Roadsters and Allison Legacy Series cars. INEX-sanctioned Legends and Bandoleros will run features Friday night as part of the Meltdown festivities on the quarter-mile track just behind the speedway.

Action begins Friday at the half-mile with pit gates opening at 10:00 am and rotating practice starting at noon. Once action at the half-mile wraps up, focus will shift to the Legends and Bandoleros at the quarter-mile. Their pit gates open at 1:00 pm Friday with alternating practice starting at 3:00 pm and heat races beginning at 6:00 pm, followed by the features. On Saturday back at the half-mile, pit gates open at 9:00 am with practicing starting at 11:00 am. Time Trials begin at 2:15 pm with heat races beginning at 4:00 pm. The 2nd Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown is set to begin at approximately 7:45 pm.
