Jimmy Blewett Fastest in Wall Turkey Derby Mods

Wall, Open-Type Modified Drivers to Run Twin 100-lap Features; Six Drivers Take Friday Support Features

Wall Township, NJ — Jimmy Blewett, of Howell, N.J., drove his late brother John’s car to top 26 other NASCAR Whelen All-American Series modifieds in Wall Township Speedway Turkey Derby XXXIV qualifying here Friday afternoon.

Blewett set a best time of 12.518 sec. around the banked paved one third mile oval, which translates to 95.766 mph. The effort locks “Showtime,” second fastest driver Nick Vasquez, Wall WAAS track champion Kevin Flockhart and the next fastest 13 drivers into the 100-lap feature to start after 1 p.m. Saturday. The other 27 are to make the headliner through the B-Main 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Friday Results

Blewett, who won the 2006 Race of Champions Tour-Type and 2003 Small Block Turkey Derby championships, is making his last race in John Blewett III’s Ling Trucking No. 76 Troyer-Dodge. It and is number will be retired after Saturay in “JBIII” ‘s honor. John Blewett, last year’s Wall WAAS track champ, died in a racing crash during a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Race at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway Aug. 16. Jim Blewett is to also compete in the 100-lap race for ROC Tour-Type modifieds Saturday afternoon.

Chas Okerson, of Freehold, held off Kevin Eyres, of Colts Neck, by .201 sec. in the 20-lap sportsman main. Don Adams, of Robbinsville, won the 20-lap Brice’s NAPA/Keenan Motors American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association feature by 1.272 sec. over Ryan Tidman.

Robert Geibel, of Brick, outran Scott Riggleman by .412 sec. to win Friday’s RMP Modified Affordable Division main. Elliott Wohl, of Freehold, added a street stock feature victory to his 2004 pro stock/sportsman win. Steve Stull, of Hamilton, beat newcomer Tom Sherman by .416 sec. in the INEX Legends Cars feature. Dan Collamer, of Waretown, won his fourth Value Towing Factory Stock feature of the year over John Cozza by .585 sec. Geibel, Wohl, Stull and Collamer are now favorites to win their respective Turkey Derby XXXIV championships. Similar faetures also make up Saturday’s support races.

Spectator gates are to open 8 a.m. with a trackside party set for 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
