Six Split Mototown USA Bud Light Spoils Sunday
W. Suffield’s Norrie 1,200cc Mini Sprint’s New Victor
Windsor, CT — Matt Norrie, of W. Suffield, Conn., became the Bud Light 12 Pack Race Series’ freshest feature winner here in MototownUSA Sunday afternoon.
Norrie used his drawn pole position to hold off DIRT 358 Modified stock car maven Mark Flach, Jr. all 20 laps of the 1,200cc mini sprint main. The Day Hill Automotive No. 16M Henchcraft-Suzuki GXSR pilot endured seven restarts on the indoor clay one-quarter-mile oval before securing his victory over Flach and series inaugural winner Marc Guerard. Norrie also ousted Guerard to lead that division’s drivers points table after two of 12 scheduled races.
Guerard, of Hartford, had just won his second straight 750cc micro sprint main. The Ciammella/Marc Guerard Racing Engines Henchcraft-GSXR No. 95 driver held off William Eggiman again – but had former NASCAR regional short track champion Ted Christopher and television racing commentator Jack Arute rounding out the top four of eight feature finishers.
Christopher was amking his 12 pack debut aboard Dave Haskell’s No. 5 Bailey-GSXR. Haskell has also been fielding Eggimann’s No. 7 and Arute’s No. 10 cars.
Rex Burritt, of Redding, kept his 600cc micro sprint main record perfect, this time keeping his Hoozier Racing Tires SB3-Suzuki 636 No. 117 this time ahead of Timex Morgan. Bud Light 12-pack newcomer Matt Pupello was third among nine finishers.
Jonathan Routhier, of Canaan, battled Mark Cooper and Allstar Race Truck Series’ Seth Duval to keep his eight-cylinder street stock feature record unblemished. Cooper seemed to have Routhier’s Canaan Auto Parts 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass No. 031P finally at bay before spinning his Chevrolet Monte Carlo to sixth place on lap 14. Duval, aboard his own No. 16 Chevy Silverado ARTS pickup truck, climbed from the rear of the seven-vehicle field to take second from newcomer John Yagmin.
“The No. 22X (Cooper) and I were giving each other room and were racing clean,” said Routhier. “He then spun by himself. As for the racetruck, that should be in a separtae division – it has a space frame and runs racing tires.”
MototownUSA organizers intend to separate or combine divisions based on car counts. The eight and four cylinder street stocks, for example, ran a combined 10-lap heat and a 30-lap feature in their Jan. 6 debut program.
Race officials meanwhile employed 20-lap features and single-file restarts Sunday to keep the show going.
Darren Jacobs, of Springfield, Mass., had to outduel rookie Joe Jacobs, no relation, to keep sweeping the four-cylinder card. D. Jacobs and his No. 21 1995 Volkswagen Jetta swapped the lead with J. Jacobs’ Honda Accord before prevailing on lap 15.
Ryan Charland, of Somers, won his second straight Modified Lite main after a spirited duel against relative Bob. Sherman Baumann was also vying for the lead before stalling out on lap 16.
The Bud Light 12 Pack Series is to resume Noon Jan. 23. MototownUSA, two miles west of Interstate 91’s Exit 38, is to host the 12 pack on Feb. 3, 17, 24; March 9, 16 and April 6 and 20.
