Stafford to Offer 2008 Season Preview at SpeedwayEXPO

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway is ready to race into the 2008 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season and will offer race fans a sneak preview into 2008 at the 2nd Annual Speedway Expo Show, to be held at the Big E in Springfield, MA from Feb. 29-March 2.

Stafford’s booth at the Speedway Expo will be filled with the SK Modified® car of Woody Pitkat, the Late Model of defending track champion Corey Hutchings, the SK Light of defending track champion Chris Matthews, the Limited Late Model car of Kevin Gambacorta, and the championship DARE Stock winning car of Norm Sears.

Woody Pitkat enters the 2008 season coming off of a superb 2007 season that saw him lead the SK Modified® field with 8 victories, including a summer streak that saw him and his #52 Davidson Foods team win five races in a row. As good as Pitkat was in 2007, his dominance was not quite enough to take the championship, which was won by Ted Christopher. Pitkat and his team enter the 2008 season as one of the favorites to take the SK Modified® championship hardware at season’s end.

Stafford’s Late Model division will be represented by defending track champion Corey Hutchings, who will have a new look for the 2008 season. Hutchings and his Clark Motorsports team will take their ECI / Cliff Nelson Motorsports sponsorship and team with Brian Kennedy for a run at defending their championship with the car that Tom Fearn drove to three victories last season.

Representing the SK Light division will be another Stafford track champion, Chris Matthews. After nearly winning the inaugural SK Light championship in 2006, Matthews scored 6 wins last season to take the championship and has won a total of 10 races in the first two years of the SK Light division’s existence. Matthews and the #29 Somersville Auto Sales team will headline the list of players who will vie for the 2008 championship.

Stafford’s Limited Late Model division will be represented by the 2006 track champion, the #23 Right Image Signs Dodge of Kevin Gambacorta, and the DARE Stock division will be represented by the championship winning #90 Cliff Nelson Motorsports Chevrolet that propelled Norm Sears to his second consecutive track championship last season.

Stafford officials will also be on hand to answer any questions about rules, as well as processing any paperwork, such as number request forms, NASCAR license applications, team profile sheets, and minor release forms.

Stafford Motor Speedway will kick off its 2008 racing season with the 37th Annual Tech-Net Spring Sizzler presented by CARQUEST, scheduled for April 25-27, 2008. The Spring Sizzler will feature the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in the 200-lap Sizzler, with Stafford’s five weekly divisions all in action.
