Puglisi Back In Action Saturday
Waterford, CT — Veteran Sportsman racer John Puglisi had a terrible weekend at the Budweiser Modified Nationals. After only a few laps in his heat, he found himself ino the wall, virtually destroying the new car he’d built and worked-on right up until Saturday morning.
Now it’s Monday, and adding insult to injury, he’s come down with a stomach virus. It couldn’t get any worse, right? Think again.
“I got up Monday for work and felt terrible. I thought it was the ‘bug’ that’s been going around,” he says. “I went back to bed and woke up again a couple of hours later. At that point, I knew I was in trouble. It felt like the entire weight of the racecar was sitting on my chest. I immediately called 911, and they carted me off to the hospital. Sure enough, I was having a heart-attack.”
After a stay in the hospital, Puglisi emerged in good shape. He realizes just how lucky he was, but that he’s going to have to make a few changes in the future.
“By Thursday, I was working on the car again, but let me tell you, this was a wake-up call,” he states. “I’m going to lead a healthier lifestyle and try not to get so stressed-out. You don’t ever expect this kind of thing to happen. The only advice I can give is that if you think you’re having issues, get together with your doctor and schedule a stress test. It’ll be well worth it.” Barring any unforeseen delays, Puglisi expects to be back behind the wheel of his familiar # 43 this Saturday evening.
