Eve of Destruction Tops Holiday Weekend List of Fun
Thompson, CT — A great evening of family fun returns to the Thompson International Speedway on Sunday, May 25th. The Eve of Destruction will once again kick off the beginning of summer in a big, bad, noisy and fun-filled way.
Mad house mayhem will be the order of the night with over a dozen different thrilling, spectacular, insane and fun-filled, action-paced attractions. It’s this kind action packed program that has become the signature of Thompson’s annual Eve of Destruction.
However, the holiday weekend actually starts early at Thompson when the track opens its weekly Thursday Night Thompson Thunder race program on Thursday, May 22nd. Fans will be greeted by a brand new lighting system that will turn darkness into daylight and will provide much improved visibility of the six NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing divisions that will be in competition. Main events will get underway shortly after 6 PM.
Once the racing program has been completed, the speedway will be transformed into a Mecca for motorized mayhem. Nationally known stunt performer Brian Carson will headline the Sunday, May 25th evening with an attempt to set a record camper jump. The car eating dinosaur, Transaurus, will satisfy its appetite by tearing automobiles to shreds. Chris Morena will bring his stunt show to the historic speedway, Super Jet Car Flame outs, car burn outs and Monster Truck Mania will heat up the evening action.
Demolition derbies are always a favorite. The annual School Bus demo derby will give school age youngsters a chance to cheer on the bus representing their school in both the Best Paint Job parade and in the actual demo derby that will reduce the bus fleet down to the final one running. Area school students spend hours designing paint schemes and then actually painting the busses for this night of school pride. Add to this the full-size car and the four cylinder car demos and the Eve of Destruction is well underway. The hilarious Trailer Trash “VI” event and the world class fireworks display will round out a night like no other.
Parents will want to bring their youngsters early to let them enjoy a midway filled with free family fun attractions. The gates will open at 1:30 PM so that kids of all ages can enjoy all of the midway attractions absolutely free. At a time when parents are looking to get the most out of every dollar, this is, by far, the best buy of the summer.
“We work very hard to provide real value in all of our events here at Thompson. It is important to us that a family can come to Thompson and have a great time at an affordable price. We go all out for our annual Eve of Destruction program to be sure that it’s a night that fans will long remember,” said track owner, Don Hoenig.
Gates will open at 1:30 PM and the on-track Eve of Destruction will start at 6 PM sharp. Full details can be found on the track’s web page at www.thompsonspeedway.com.
