Eve of Destruction Highlights Day of Family Fun at Thompson
Thompson, CT — The annual Eve of Destruction at Thompson International Speedway tops the list of family attractions for the Memorial Day weekend. This once a year night of madcap mayhem has become a tradition for thousands of area families as they make plans for their holiday weekend celebrations.
The historic speedway is transformed into the likes of a mid evil arena where the last man standing receives the adoration and accolades of the crowd but also reaps a financial windfall for his gladiator-like performance.
Thompson’s Eve of Destruction presents a long list of modern day gladiators who defy the odds through madcap motorized mayhem. Car and school bus demolition derbies, the Chris Morena stunt shows, Brian Carson’s attempt to set a record breaking jump with a car flying over campers, a monster truck destroying cars and Transaurus, the car eating dinosaur and the ever-popular Trailer Trash VI race are but a few of the attractions.
Jet car flame outs, car burn outs, will light up and smoke up the night time sky which will, near the close of the evening, seem to come to life with the brilliant colors and sounds of an incredible fireworks display.
Area high schools join the fun by painting school busses with their own paint schemes and themes. These busses, destined for destruction in the school bus demolition derby, will first pass in review to be judged by the thousands in attendance. Those that prove to be the real crowd pleasers will bring financial rewards to the schools and may go on to gain even more money in the school bus “demo” derby.
Before the 6 PM start time for the Eve of Destruction, Thompson International Speedway will present a free, fun-filled afternoon for kids. The entire midway will be filled with free attractions for the young and the young at heart. Gates to the speedway will open at 2 PM and youngsters will have more than four hours to enjoy all of the attractions that have become a big part of the entire day of activity at Thompson.
Adult admission is just $18.00 and tickets for youngsters (ages 6-14) are priced at only $10.00. Little fun seekers ages 5 and under are admitted free. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held on Monday, May 26th with the same schedule mentioned above.
