Extreme Family Fun Night This Sunday

Thompson, CT — The place to be this Sunday will be the Thompson International Speedway. The holiday weekend would not be complete without taking in the annual Eve of Destruction. This event draws thousands from near and far who enjoy a fun-filled evening of motorized mayhem that runs from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Thompson’s Eve of Destruction is designed to provide everything from the thrilling, edge-of-your-seat excitement with incredible stunt performances to uproarious laughter at the antics of the sixth annual Trailer Trash Race and demolition derbies.

It all begins at 2 PM with a midway filled with free activities for kids. Free attractions for kids are rare these days, but this tradition at Thompson International Speedway has become a holiday weekend staple giving families an afternoon filled with fun things to do.

As afternoon turns to evening, everyone’s attention will move to the action on the race track. A long list of fun-filled performances will await those looking for an evening filled with everything from death defying stunts to side-splitting laughter.

Brian Carson, a truly legendary stunt performer, returns to Thompson after a 2001 stunt accident that nearly claimed his life. He will be directing and producing an amazing performance by Chris Morena. Morena will drive a full-size car towing a full-size travel trailer at high speed up a launch ramp with the intent of ‘flying’ about 150 feet through the air before a death defying landing on a pile of derelict cars.

The amazing Dinosaur of Destruction, Transaurus, will be looking to satisfy its enormous appetite. Transaurus, which is 35 feet high and 51 feet long, weighs in at just over 37,000 pounds and is satisfied only when fed a high iron content meal of automobiles.

Paul Stender’s amazing collection of jet powered vehicles will provide a thrill-a-minute performances that has been compared to strapping a man to a rocket ship. Jet power will be shared with enormous  horse power provided by the Monster Truck, Towasarus. Anything placed in the path of this Monster Truck is doomed.

Smoke, flame, burning rubber and violent crashes are the hallmark of the Eve of Destruction. Much of the smoke will come from the car Burn-Outs directly in front of the Thompson grandstands. Crash and smoke, “rockin and sockin” demolition derbies will be range from little four cylinder and full-size cars all the way up to school busses. The busses, however, will have one last time to be in the spotlight. Each participating school bus has been the project of area school children. Each school came up with a ‘demo team’ and these teams have actually decorated each of the busses with a special paint scheme.  Fans in attendance will be asked to judge the best appearing bus just before they are reduced to complete junk in the school bus demo.

To many, one of the highlights of the Eve of Destruction is the annual Trailer Trash Race. This fan favorite makes the worst traffic jam look like kids play and provides side-splitting laughter and enjoyment right up until the winner is declared. Miss Buffy, the Trailer Trash Queen, is expected to provide poise and beauty to the event while she presides over the mayhem.

Any such evening would not be complete without a huge fireworks display. The night sky will be filled with brilliant colors resulting from an amazing fireworks show. It happens but once a year and this Sunday, May 25th is the date. However, in the event of inclement weather, Thompson’s Eve of Destruction will be held, at the same time and at the same place on Monday, May 26th.  Complete details along with some amazing photos provide additional information for web users.
