Scott Serydynski Emotional in Street Stock Victory Lane, While Kid Scully, Kyle Casper and Bill Prisco Repeat

Seekonk, MA — With the temperatures as high as it has been all year, you know the action would be even hotter on Neolite Signs night. The Seekonk Sport Trucks were the first feature on the night. 63 year racing veteran Billy Clarke of Seekonk and New Bedford’s Lenny Guy sat on the front row of their 20 lap main. Guy found the early lead, and attempted to put his name in the record books as another first time winner this season. It would only be 3 laps in before trouble would start. Several trucks got together in turn 3, which involved reigning Champion Mike Cavallaro, Rick Martin, Mike Ronhock, and Hugh Bowser. When the field went green again, Clarke would slide back, allowing Charlie Rose and Billy Prisco to slide underneath, running 3 wide for several laps. Ed Gannon II had worked his way up into the runner up spot, and was looking for a way into the lead. Bill Prisco was working the outside, and had moved past Rose and Gannon into second.

Working lap 11, the leaders were fighting lapped traffic when Guy seemed to slow so he wouldn’t hit the slower traffic. When he slowed, Gannon, who hade gotten by Prisco as they battled for second, made contact with Guy, costing Guy a chance at the win. Prisco would inherit the lead, as the field reverted to the last completed green flag lap. The top 10 at that point was Prisco, Gannon, Rose, Cavallaro, Martin, John Dumas, Hugh Bowser, Zach Tucan and Darryl Church. Green flag racing would not last, as Gannon spun down the front stretch, which caused Cavallaro to slide against the wall lightly, cutting down the right front tire. Charlie Rose would inherit the runner up spot on the restart, and started to edge into the lead on the ensuing green. It was lap 14 when trouble bit Rose, when he cut his left rear tire after he and Prisco rubbed while racing for the lead. Rose slid to the back of the field and spun, bringing out the yellow at lap 14. John Dumas was now up to second, with Martin, Bowser and Tucan ran in the top 5. When the green returned, Rick Martin Prisco would once again take the lead, would hold off a hard charging Martin, who used the outside groove to make one final charge. Behind them, the field was running 2 and 3 wide. Prisco held off Martin by a margin of 0.202 seconds at the line, with Hugh Bowser, Steve Dumas, and Ed Gannon rounding out the top 5.

It was a hard fought win.” Prisco would exclaim in Victory Lane. “Thanks to my car owner Eric DeSouza, the crew Mike, Chris, my wife, everyone out there. John Tyler helped us out this week. This is his win. Phil’s Propane is such a great sponsor. This is great.”

The 30 lap Late Model feature had a few different story lines. NeoLite signs were presenting the race, with an extra $100.00 for the top 5. Also, it was the first Dusty Young Memorial for the late models, which brought Glen Young out of retirement. Randy Clark and Dennis Stampfl sat on the front row when they went green. Clark would jump out front early on, but it was John Dickerman who would be the man on the move early on, as he would take the lead by lap 5 in a 3 wide move. As he opened up a comfortable lead, Gerry DeGasparre, Jeramee Lillie, Matt Breault, and Kyle Casper were finding their way through the field. Lillie had moved his Houle Motorsports into the4 runner up spot, but that was short lived, as Kyle Casper had moved underneath, and pushed his way up to the back bumper of Dickerman. Over the next several laps, Casper would work the outside, and on lap 11, DeGasparre would make it a 3 wide battle for the lead. Casper was on the outside, DeGasparre on the inside, and Dickerman in the middle. Casper had his Houle Motorsports sticking in that outside lane, and started to open up a 3 car advantage over the reigning champion. On lap 17, the yellow would come out for the first time, as the 22 of Tyler Thompson could not get up the tunnel. Casper, DeGasparre, Lillie, Matt Breault, and John Hanafin were the top 5.

Once they went back to green, DeGasparre would make this charge, as he edged in front slightly, but when it counted at the stripe, Casper would edge out front, They would rub hard while racing for the lead, but that charge would slow on lap 20, as Dickerman spun his Airgas #13 in turn 1. DeGasparre continued his assault on the ensuing green, as the A-1 Custom Auto Body was doing all he can to get by Casper, but again the challenge would only last a few laps, as Mark Langlois spun his Crown Collision in turn 1. That would make it a 5 lap sprint for the win. But it was all for naught, as Kyle Casper would be able to keep DeGasparre at bay, and picked up his second win of the season. DeGasparre missed by 0.481 second in finishing second. Matt Breault held on for third, while John Hanafin and Bill Bernard rounded out the top 5.

“That was hard work.” Kyle exclaimed. “Gerry raced me hard, and I was up for the challenge. It’s great that Glen and the gang put up the trophy for Dusty. I want to dedicate this win to Justin Travis, who lost his dad last week. This was great.

The second Annual Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment 30 lap main event for the Street Stocks would line up next, with Ryan Lineham and Justin Travis bringing the field down for the green. Tori Sagar waved the green flag, and Ryan would pick up the lead. But it would be short lived, as on lap 2, mechanical gremlins would continue to hamper the Lineham Motorsports team as a small fire under the hood would bring his night to and end. He was able to get into the pits without incident, but the caution was out for the first time. Crystal Serydynski inherited the lead, and it would be a few restarts before she would get a chance to show her stuff at the front. With several small incidents causing the yellow to return on lap 2, and twice on lap 3, it would be a few minutes before they would get any momentum. Once green, Crystal kept her LeMyers Collision Center #8 at the front.

She would continue to strut at the top through two more restarts at lap 12 and lap 17 for hard racing. But on lap 19, her bid for the win would end when her car slowed off of turn 2. She lost several spots before getting her momentum back. By that time, Tony Oliviera found his E.A. Dion Malibu leading the 30 lap main. When the field got back up to speed, it was Oliviera, Scott Serydynski, Paul Lallier, Sparky Arsenault, and Steve Axon the top 5. Paul Lallier used an inside move to get the lead in the Chaz’s Auto Body #70, and started to put his stamp on this one. Lap 20 saw the field slow again, and this incident involved several of the favorites, including Tony Oliviera, Steve Axon, Sparky Arsenault and Frank Duquette. They raced 2 and three wide through the field as the final laps ticked off. The battle for the lead included Lallier and Scott Serydynski, and they ran that way for 9 laps. But it was that final lap where it changed. Going into turn 3 for the final time, Scott Serydynski squeezed into the inside, and found himself picking up the win by half a second over Paul Lallier. Elmer Wing III finished right behind in third with Dick Cavallaro and Ron Barboza Jr. rounded out the top 5.

“That was an awesome finish” An emotional Scott Serydynski would exclaim. “It means so much to race my niece out there. I thank the Vendetti’s for letting us race. Paul looked like he was tightening up, and I waited to make my move. Thanks to Red Wing Shoes, Rego Motorsports, Newcomb Construction and Roofing. MAP Insulation, PRR, my family and friends, and everyone that has contributed to this car.”

The ARC Pro Stocks rounded out the nights’ action with the NeoLite Signs 40 lap feature. The front row consisted of Dave Hutchins of Somerset Ma and John Dabrowski of West Bridgewater. Hutchins would get the jump and put his Hutchins & Sons Enterprises Monte Carlo at the top. Scott Dion would stay on his rear bumper in his Douglas A King Builders 04, and Jake Vanada in his Propane Plus Ford. They would run single file for the first several laps, when Vanada tried the outside. Little by little he would work his way by Dion and on lap 18 he edged by Hutchins, leading his first laps in a Pro Stock, with Tom Scully Jr on his tail. As the field went into turn 3, Scully got a run to inside of Vanada and almost had the lead. The only thing that kept him from getting out front was the yellow coming out for John Dabrowski as he spun on lap i8. As they went back to green, Vanada opened up a 2 car length lead over Scully Jr, Hutchins, Dave Darling and Tom Scully Sr. Dave Darling used a 3 wide move to move into third, but he was almost a full straightaway behind. A look back at the top of the field saw some heavy racing, and on lap 24, the rookie seems to bobble as he entered turn 3 and contact from Scully Jr sent him spinning into the infield. While he was able to keep his momentum and return onto the track in seventh place, his hopes for his first career Pro Stock win would have to wait for the next race. Dave Darling was now second with Tom Scully Sr, Fred Astle, and Ken Spencer rounded out the top 5.

Tom Scully Jr continued to lead with a comfortable lead. The battle for second would be the one to watch, and Fred Astle had his Woodframe Structures Monte Carlo sticking on the outside. He took just a few laps to even up and edge ahead of Darling, but he wasn’t able to close the deal, as he crossed the nose of the Johnson Landscaping Dodge, causing Astle to spin off of turn 3 on lap 37, bringing out the caution. This brought the field together for a 3 lap shootout. Scully Jr, Darling, Scully Sr, Matt Hudon, and Ken Spencer were the top 5. Lap 37 would be a tough one to get through, as there were 3 cautions thrown before lap 38 could be completed. Matt Hudon did not seem to come up to speed, and his Honey Dew Donuts machine brought out one of the cautions when he spun, and Jake Vanada would spin again, with Scott Dion, Mike Brightman and Ryan Vanasse would all get involved. All would be able to continue. One more restart, and Kid Scully and Dave Darling would fight hard, with Scully Sr and Ken Spencer duking it out for third. Coming down to complete lap 38, Tom Scully Sr spun his Subway Rt 6 Seekonk Monte Carlo, and narrowly missed hitting the wall head on, as Dave Hutchins clipped the right rear, allowing the left rear to graze the wall slightly. With suspension damage to the left rear, he would retire and finish 13th. This would be the final caution, as the final three laps would complete without any more problems. Tom Scully Jr held off Dave Darling by less than ½ second, picking up his second win of the season in his East Coast Collision, Dr. Feelgood Limousine deuce. Dave Darling held on for second, with Ken Spencer, Fred Astle and Dave Hutchins rounding out the top 5. Sixth through tenth were John Dabrowski, Mike Brightman, Jake Vanada, Steve O’Brien and Matt Hudon.

“I thought me and the old man would both finish in the top 3 tonight” said a tired Tom Jr. in Victory Lane. “We have to figure out how to keep both cars on the track when one of us wins.” Referring to the point that when he and his father have won this year, the other has crashed out. “Vinnie and the rest of the guys have put a great car underneath me this year. Dave Darling ran me tough, but you’re going to get that from him. You just have to be prepared for it. Thanks to NeoLite signs for the trophy tonight, thanks to Subway of Seekonk Rt 6, Dr Feelgood Limos, and East Coast Collision for coming back on board this year. So far, it’s been good for us.”
