Glen Reen Is Ready to Live His Modified Dreams at New Hampshire
Connecticut Native Will Race the Magic Mile for the First Time This Weekend
Concord, NC — It’s not often when drivers get to race at their dream tracks. But not only does Glen Reen get to fulfill his lifelong dream of racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the New England 100, he will also get to do it against his racing heroes. Ted Christopher and Mike Stefanik are a few of the guys who Reen watched tackle the one-mile oval as he was growing up, and now he’ll get to draft and bang wheels with some of the best in Modified racing.
“I am super excited, to be honest,” said Reen. “We ran shifter karts there for about two years, 80 cc and 125. I remember going there and getting all excited. That’s where the big guys race, and now to actually run on the same weekend with some of the big guys is amazing.”
Reen is a Whelen Modified Series rookie and has run all four races this year. He’s looking to continue his streak of solid finishes at NHMS and things look promising after a solid practice session at the Magic Mile a few weeks back.
“When we ran up there for practice, we were either first or second fastest,” added Reen. “Granted not everybody was there, but we were still happy with our results. When I left there, I felt that I was more comfortable at that track than I was at Thompson or Stafford.”
Reen has seen a race from the stands at New Hampshire and after testing, he knows a bit more of what you can’t see from that vantage point.
“A lot more things happen in the car,” said Reen. “When you are watching from the stands, you are so far away you don’t see the car wiggling. You don’t see the guy’s left-rear going down, all these little things. You don’t see the car wiggling 55 times through the middle of the corner.”
Now that Reen has had laps around New Hampshire, he will take on a whole new task when the green flag comes out, drafting. “I am a little nervous about the draft,” said Reen. We got a quick time, but in practice they said no drafting. I got to jump behind one of my friends, Woody Pitkat, who was real quick, and my teammate Todd Szegedy. We jumped behind him for a lap or so, but got yelled at.”
Reen is scheduled to make his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour start at New Hampshire on Saturday, June 28th.
