Palmer, Brouwer Among Wild N’ Wacky Winners
Waterford, CT — Defending champion Jason Palmer notched the 20-lap Legends feature on Wild N’ Wacky Wednesday.
Other feature winners were Rob Corey (Super-X Car), John Bowes (X-Car), and Richard “Bubby” Brouwer (X-Modified).
A caution with only 3-laps remaining set the stage for a supreme battle in the Legends main event. Running side-by-side to the checkers, Palmer used the inside groove to narrowly defeat George Whitney and Max Zachem in a near photo-finish. Following in the top-5 was Mike Alcaro and Giovanni Giarrantana. Shooting for a fourth-consecutive victory, Shaun Buffington saw his evening end prematurely with a vicious trip into the second-turn wall. Running with leaders, the Buffington mount became airborne after hopping over the car of Carl Blandina. Also involving several others, all competitors emerged uninjured.
In 20-lap Super-X action, Rob Corey passed Jon Porter in lapped traffic with only 3-laps remaining to take the lead. Surviving a trio of late-race restarts, Corey battled with Porter and Greg Moran Sr. before finally pulling-ahead with less than a circuit remaining. Porter spun with the checker waving, ending-up sixth. Completing the top-5 was Moran, Steve Barrett, Tom Messore, and George Correia. Winner of the Wild N’ Wacky season opener, it was Corey’s second victory of the season.
John Bowes grabbed the lead early in handily dominating the 20-lap X-Car feature. A number of restarts presented the competition with several shots at the 2-time feature winner, but in each instance he bolted to a healthy advantage over the pack. Following was Pat Williams, Curt D’Addario Sr., Steve Violette, and Rich Hurne.
In an event that saw several caution periods, defending champion Richard “Bubby” Brouwer passed early leader David Flammia Jr. with only 5-laps left to win the 15-lap X-Modified feature. Following Flammia was Anthony Burr, Richard Durkee IV, and David O’Leary.
Cheered on by the large enthusiastic crowd, Greg “Magic Man” Moran narrowly defeated pal Steve Barrett in the Wild N’ Wacky “Musical Chairs” Super-X event.
Special thanks go out to the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Club for presenting a 5-lap exhibition event featuring an array of vintage Midget race cars.
Wild N’ Wacky Wednesday continues to draw some of the largest fields in New England. There was once again over 100-cars signed into the pits.
