Warwick’s Kyle DiFusco picks up $2,000 Demo at Seekonk Speedway
Bill Chouinard wins Pure Stock feature in July 6th Action.
Seekonk, MA — Seekonk Speedway celebrated Independence Day with a capacity crowd, and a Thrill Show that featured a $2,000 to win Demolition Derby. When it was all said and done, Kyle DiFusco of Warwick RI reigned supreme, besting over 100 cars that were on hand for the evenings festivities.
The afternoon started with 80+ brave souls who brought their everyday sedan out for the Spectator Drags. It came down to Bryan Hartling and Jose Rodriguez racing their machines over a 2 lap distance. It was Corvette against Camaro. At the end, Pawtucket’s Rodriguez put his Corvette into Victory Lane.
The Pure Stock division, which is part of our Fast Friday series, was on hand for a 25 lap feature. Current point leader and reigning champion Bill Chouinard bested over 20 competitors to pick up his third win of the season. Joe Carpenter and John Robidoux bought the 21 car field down for the green. Robidoux quickly moved his Sanford & Son’s Auto Parts Monte Carlo out to the front, while Carpenter fell back a little. Chouinard found himself running second by lap 3, and started to make his move for the lead early.
A caution came out on lap 3, when the #33 spun in turn 2. As the field went back to green, Robidoux jumped back out front. The driver on the move was Mark Boisvert of Uxbridge, as he was working his way up. With a 3 wide move, Boisvert moved under Robidoux and Chouinard to find himself leading on lap 4. The second and final yellow dropped on lap 6, when Vincent Pangelinan, Dirk Eykelhoff, and Rick Hayward tangled in turn 3. All were able to continue.
Boisvert continued to lead under green, as Robidoux and Chouinard raced for second. The Swansea native Chouinard moved into second on lap 11, and coming down to complete lap 12, found himself leading when Boisvert lost the handles on his orange machine and spun in turn 4. Scott Cestodio, fresh off his first career Friday night win, was trying to work his way through the pack. Following him was Taunton native Tom Blackwell. Blackwell was moving his Bruce Lacey Cornwell Tools machine on the outside, and moved his machine in a 3 way battle with the Towncartravel.com Monte Carlo of Cestodio and Robidoux. The three swapped positions several times over the final 12 laps. With heavy traffic fighting the leaders over the last 8 laps allowed Blackwell to close in on Chouinard, but ran out of time. In the end, it was Chouinard hanging on for his third win of the season by a margin if 0.479 over Blackwell. Bob Hinckley of Acushnet used the outside lane over the last dozen laps and edged out Cestodio for third. Robidoux rounded out the top 5. Rounding out the top ten were Amy Arsenault, Randy Moretti, Jeremy Lambert, Dirk Eykelhoff and Vinny Pangelinan.
Other winners include Matt Arruda of Fall River in the Enduro Drags, Brian Duphilly of Attleboro and Mike Glennon in the Enduros.
