Pro Stocks Front & Center at Thompson This Week
Thompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen All American Series Pro Stocks will be in limelight this Thursday at the Thompson International Speedway. This ultra-fast and exciting racing division will compete in a 50-lap main event on an evening sponsored by USG.
Pro Stocks have been an extremely popular racing division in New England for many years and some of the region’s best drivers have made this a fan-favorite division whenever they compete.
An exciting addition to this division for 2008 is 16 year old Derek Ramstrom of Worcester, MA. This talented young rookie has won the last three Pro Stock races at Thompson and has been tested by many of New England’s best race teams and drivers.Ramstrom will be looking to make it four in a row this week in the biggest Pro Stock race of the season at Thompson.
Current points leader, Fred Astle, Jr has also visited victory lane this season as has Michael O’Sullivan. These drivers along with other long-time Pro Stock campaigners Norman Wrenn, Jay Macedonio and George Bessette will do their best to stop the Ramstrom express.
Other “top shoes” in the Pro Stock division include Jeff Zuidema, David Berghman, Steve Desmarais, Jeff Connors, Dave Silvia and more. Each will be faced with the extra distance, 50-lap main event, and the goal of ending their effort in victory lane. A win in this race is the dream of every Pro Stocker at Thompson and the competition should be fierce.
Joining the Pro Stocks will be the other five racing divisions in Thompson’s “Super Six” NASCAR Whelen All American Series. Sunoco Modifieds top the list. In addition, the hard-charging Late Models, the exciting Limited Sportsman, the ever popular Thompson Modifieds and the thrilling Mini Stocks will round out the program.
Qualifying begins at 5:15 PM with feature event racing slated for a 6: 30 PM start. The evening’s complete schedule is available on the Thompson Web site. www.thompsonspeedway.com.
