RAC Teams with Speedbowl for Night of Racing & Fundraising
Westbrook, CT — The Racing Against Cancer (TM) team has joined forces with the Waterford Speedbowl and KOOL 101-FM to present a night of exciting racing and fundraising. On August 16, 2008, the Waterford Speedbowl will host the Racing Against Cancer (TM) “Wings and Wheels” presented by Foxwoods and KOOL 101. Race fans are invited to watch some of the fastest divisions in all of New England racing while helping to raise money for an excellent cause.
The Racing Against Cancer (TM) Program will receive $2 from the sale of every adult grandstand admission ticket. In addition to helping raise money for the local non-profit organization, fans will get their monies worth. The race card will include a 50-lap feature event for the International Supermodified Association (ISMA), 100 laps for the True Value Modified Racing Series (TVMRS), 25-laps for the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA) and a 35 lap main event for the Speedbowl’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK-Modified division. Qualifying heats will be run for all divisions.
“When Scott (Gregory, the Director of Operations for the Racing Against Cancer Team) approached us about this event, it seemed like a pretty good formula,” said Jim Reed, Host of KOOL 101’s Morning Show. “Race fans will enjoy watching three fast racing series that they normally would not be able to see along with the regular SK Modifieds that they can see every week during the season. And all of us can help raise money for this great cause. With 210 feature laps at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, “Wings & Wheels” is going to be a win-win for everybody.”
Money raised at the event will go to support the Racing Against Cancer (TM) and the various cancer related charities that it supports including the American Cancer Society; David’s House, a haven for terminally ill children receiving treatment through Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (NH) and their families; and the Tomorrow Fund, a non-profit organization that provides daily financial and emotional support to children with cancer and their families who are treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, RI.
Fans can learn more about the Racing Against Cancer (TM) Program by visiting the display that will be set up on the midway that evening. A variety of teams that support the RAC Program in other racing venues will have their Cars on display on the midway as well.

“We have always admired the Racing Against Cancer (TM) cause and amazed by the amount of money that they have raised for the fight against cancer,” continued Reed. “Everybody, young and old, has been touched by this disease. Anything that helps raise money for the fight against cancer is worthwhile.”
The racers supporting the event will also get an opportunity to share in the excitement of “Wings & Wheels”. There will be a $100 Foxwoods Resort Casino Cash Bonus to the first car under the checkered flag in each division that carries the RAC decals.
“Raising awareness for the program is also integral in the success of the organization,” said Director of Operations for the Racing Against Cancer Team (TM), Scott Gregory. “We work with countless race teams and race tracks to host fundraisers and local RAC nights. Teams are encouraged to run the RAC stickers on their cars for the rest of the 2008 season.”
There will also be a race within a race during the SK Modified portion of “Wings & Wheels”. The Monahan Brothers, Sean & Diego, long-time competitors at the Speedbowl, will vie for dominance on behalf of their respective sponsors for the evening. Sean will be driving a Foxwoods-sponsored entry while Diego pilots a KOOL 101 FM entry. The brother finishing lower in the final running order will have to make a personal donation of $200 to the Racing Against Cancer (TM) Program.
“We are both very happy to be involved with something like this,” said Diego. “To be able to raise money for so a worthy cause and to be able to do it through racing is pretty cool.”
Sean, who shared the same enthusiastic sentiment as his brother, has taken his involvement one further.
“I’m going to leave one of the rear panels on my car open so that anyone interested in being involved in this great event can take part in a bigger way. Any monies that are received for sponsorship of the car that night will go directly to the Racing Against Cancer (TM) program.”

Other RAC fundraising during “Wings & Wheels” will include the “Spin to Win” Prize Wheel. For a small donation fans will spin the wheel in hopes of taking home T-shirts, candy, RAC novelty items and more. Raffle tickets will also be sold for the 11th Annual RAC Season-long raffle featuring a grand prize Indy-style Racing Against CancerTM replica go-kart with full race graphics. Other prizes include a $150 gift certificate redeemable at the NASCAR.com Super Store, an RAC leather jacket, and more. Additional donations will also be accepted.
A host of notable competitors will be on hand to help ensure the success of the Racing Against Cancer (TM) “Wings and Wheels” presented by Foxwoods and KOOL 101. The always colorful, multi-time ISMA Supermodified champion, Chris Perley of Rowley, MA, will be in search of his third straight win at the Bowl as will current NEMA point leader Randy Cabral. Former Speedbowl Champion, Rob Summers will be aboard the “School is Cool” Supermodified for owner Howie Lane. Speedbowl favorites like Chris Pasteryak, Ed Dachenhausen and Mike Holdridge, who graduated to the TVMRS, will be “home” for the big event.
