Rain forces cancellation of Fast Friday event

Seekonk, MA — Once again, Mother Nature turned ugly Friday night, and forced the cancellation of the Fast Friday series. This is the first time of the season that the Friday series has been halted due to rain.

With only five events remaining for the Seekonk Youth Racing Association, teams are getting ready to make their final assault for the championship run. In the SYRA 600, Jake Spillers of Ashburnham, MA leads the points chase, using his Opening Night win to propel him to the top, and several top five finishes, including a second the last time they met to keep him there. He currently has a 17 point advantage over second generation racer Dave Hutchens from Somerset. Dave has been consistent this season, but has been shut out of Victory Lane. Fairhaven’s Kyle DeSouza is lurking in third, and has run the gamut of runs. From a win in week three, to barrel rolling in week four, Kyle’s rookie season has been a memorable one. He sits only two points behind Hutchens. Branden Dion of Taunton sits fourth, as he has consistently been among the top five, but has his own points battle going on, as Waterford CT’s Kaitlyn Donovan is only one point out in fifth.

The S.Y.R.A. 750 class has been one of the most exciting divisions to watch on the schedule. Derryk Anderson Jr has carried the checkered flag twice this season, including the last time they raced. He has a 15 point lead over Niantic CT’s Kyle Kuchta, who finally picked up his first SYRA win after four years of trying. His advantage over third is only three points, as Casey Sanchez of Providence, who won the first two events, sits third. Nick Ladyga of Voluntown CT is fourth, just two points behind Sanchez, and East Taunton’s Dylan Estrella is fifth, thirteen points out of fourth.

The Pure Stock, by virtue of their running on the Sunday Thrill shows, have six events remaining for the season. Reigning champion Bill Chouinard currently leads the Championship chase. With four wins on the season, he currently has a twelve point lead over a two way tie between Taunton’s Tom Blackwell, who has used consistency to propel him to second, and Scott Cestodio of Swansea, who has two wins on the season. Bob Hinckley has two wins on the season, and sits fourth in the standings, a bit behind the top three, and John Robidoux rounds out the top five, only nine points out of fourth.

Fast Friday racing returns on Friday, August 15, with a full slate of SYRA, Pure Stock, and Kart racing. General admission is only $5.00, with kids 12 and under, FREE. Keep up to date with all the action at seekonkspeedway.com. Come by and watch the Stars of Tomorrow, today.
