Charlie Rose Picks Up Kraze Korlacki Truck Win at Seekonk

Dave Darilng, Scott Serydynski & Kevin Casper in Wheelock NAPA Auto Parts Victory Lane
Seekonk, MA — Charlie Rose Jr picked up his fourth win of the season in the Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment 30 lap feature. Charlie only led one lap, but it was the most important one. As the field came down for the green flag, Blackstone’s Eric Boyko and Attleboro’s Jay Arsenault raced into turn one. Arsenault wouldn’t last long at the front, as he spun as they raced back into turn one on the second lap. Dan Fresh and Brian Murray both were involved. Lenny Guy of New Bedford was the new leader, but his lead would only last for a few laps, as Zach Tucan powered past the L H Boulanger & Son’s Ford and took the lead on lap five. Once out front, the Reynolds Auto Wrecking Nissan opened up a fiver truck length lead.

Ed Gannon II started back in sixth, and quickly moved into the second position several laps later, bringing with him Rick Martin and Charlie Rose Jr. The Arnel Siding and Window Sales Ford of Gannon had come through the field quickly, but was not able to close in the leader, as Tucan continued to hold a steady lead. Gannon did have his hands full however, as Rick Martin had worked his Rick Martin RC Hobbies & Signs Toyota from tenth to third. Charlie Rose Jr wanted to have some of the fun, and sat in the fourth spot with Lenny Guy rounding out the top five at the halfway point.

Just past the halfway point, Martin’s bid for victory came to an end, as the left front tire went down. Martin was able to limp his Ritchie’s Auto Radio Tacoma into the infield. Just outside the top five, John Paiva, Jody Tripp, Mike Cavallaro and Bill Prisco were fighting for position, with working the outside of Paiva. He picked up the sixth position, with Prisco following suit.

The second caution dropped on lap 26, when Eric Boyko spun his Boyko Motorsports machine off of turn four. This set up a four lap shootout, as Toucans’ lead disappeared, and put Gannon to the outside for the final charge. Rose was third, with Guy and Tripp the top five. On the restart, Rose got the run underneath Gannon, as Tucan set the pace. As the white flag came out, Tucan opened up the inside lane, and Rose slid his Sanford Tree Experts Ford to the inside. The pair raced side by side into turn three, but coming out of turn four, Tucan lost control and went around in front of the field, collecting several trucks. Rose picked up the win, and threading through the spinning trucks was Lenny Guy, who equals his best finishing position. Tripp crossed the line in third, with Cavallaro fourth and Tucan crossing the line fifth while going sideways.

I thought we were beat” exclaimed Charlie in Victory Lane. “Then the restart came, and we were too tight, and the caution helped cool the tires. He almost had it. I couldn’t quite fill the hole, but he pushed up on that last lap, and I was in there. I want to thank Charlie and my dad. Brian Sanford and Kevin, Roscoe, and the guys on my Pro Stock team. They help on this as well. Also thanks to Nat.”

Exeter RI’s Scott Serydynski became the tracks winningest Street Stock driver when he picked up his 19th career Street win Saturday.  Manville’s Dam Gamache Jr set the early pace, as he beat Dick Cavallaro on the restart. Chris Rioux tried to make it a three car race for the lead on the opening laps. Cavallaro settled into second, with Rioux sitting third. Cavallaro looked high and low for running room by the leader, but had to hold off the challenges of first Rioux, and then Serydynski, who was using the outside lane to get to the front.

As the field crossed at the halfway point, Gamache got loose, and slid up the racetrack with Serydynski on the outside. Cavallaro looked to make it three wide, but ran out of room as they went into turn one. Serydynski took the lead, with Gamache in second. The first caution came out on lap ten, as the Jack’s Auto Salvage Chevy of Dave Ratcliffe spun in turn 2. The top ten at this point were Serydynski, Gamache, Cavallaro, Scott Bruneau, Ron Barboza, Rioux, Mark Henshaw, Brian Spillane, and Sparky Arsenault.

Once back under way, Serydynski opened up a little breathing room, as Gamache was caught on the outside. Cavallaro slid in underneath the early race leader and put his Casey Title Co. Chevy into second. Scott Bruneau, who started sixth, moved his State Line Tree Works Monte Carlo into third, while Gamache continued to hang on. The second caution came out on lap 15, when Doug Rioux stalled his Everett’s Auto Parts Cutlass heading into the pits. Serydynski, Cavallaro, Bruneau, Gamache and Newcomb were the top five.

Back under way, Scott was not to be denied, as the Red Wing Shoes Camaro opened up a 3 car length lead. The battle for second waged on, with Cavallaro on the outside and Bruneau down low. Bruneau took the spot with just a couple of laps left. Serydynski held on to win the Wheelock NAPA Auto Group 20 lap main, holding off Bruneau, Cavallaro, Newcomb and Rioux.

I need to thank Ken and Sue Rego for this. They are great owners,” a tired winner stated. “My wife and kids are with me 100%, and this is for them!” as he held out and shook a stuffed animal of his sons for luck. “Thanks to Red Wing Shoes, Hallman’s Portable Toilets and Septic, Tom’s Lawn & Garden, Douglas Auto Parts, Nat’s Racing Engines, Map insulation Corp, JRA Powdercoating, and to all of the fans for supporting us.”

In the 30 lap Late Model main, Kevin Casper emerged as the winner by .012 seconds over Ryan Vanasse, in a race that went 31 laps due to a late race caution. John Hanafin jumped out to the early lead in his President’s Landscape and Designs Chevy. Clark sat second early on, as Bill Bernard’s Ashland Lumber Chevy was trying to move up on the outside early on, as he and Vanasse battled for third position in the beginning laps. Vanasse was using the inside lane from his fifth starting position, and by lap ten, he had moved his Team V Transportation Chevy into second. Following him on the inside was the Phil’s Propane Ford of Kevin Casper, as they found the right lanes early. Casper followed through into third, with DeGasparre trying to follow through. Clark started to backslide on the outside in his Baywatch Realty Chevy, with Bernard caught with nowhere to go but back with him. Jon Dickerman found the inside lane behind DeGasparre, and moved his Dennis K Burke Chevy into the top six.

Hanafin continued to set the pace, but had no comfort, as Vanasse looked to the inside lane to pick up the lead. Vanasse had to allow the Local 7 Ironworkers Chevy to collect a couple of times, and this allowed the CanDigIt Excavating Fusion of Casper to move to the outside lane. Ryan took a look to the outside of the leader, and little by little whittled away at the deficit. Using momentum, he evened up as they duo raced wheel to wheel for several laps, with Vanasse taking the lead on lap 14. They swapped the lead back and forth over the next few laps, with the rookie putting his black and gold back to the top of the leader board the following lap. Vanasse took the lead back on lap 16, and was able to move into the lead and close the door on Hanafin. Casper sat third, with DeGasparre and Dickerman rounded out the top five.

The first caution came out on lap 17, when the WA Bernard Chevy of Bill Bernard went around on lap 17 while battling with Kyle Casper for sixth position. This gave Kevin Casper on opportunity to try and wrestle the lead away from Vanasse on the restart. And chances he had. Six additional cautions would come out over the next 12 lap for various instances, the most serious one was on lap 24, when Matt Breault, Kevin Folan, Bob Hussey, and Mark DeJesus all got together in turn four. All were able to continue. During these 2-3 lap exchanges, the only position change was DeGasparre moving up to third on the lap 25 restart, when he beat Jon Dickerman to the line by .001 for third. At that same rate, it was .006 between Vanasse and Casper at the stripe for the lead.

With 29 laps complete, the final restart came, and Casper had a friendly ghost with hi, as he stuck the Phil’s Propane Ford hard into the corners for the green-white-checker finish. Vanasse led lap 30, but as they came down for the checkered flag, Casper got an extra bite, and beat Vanasse to the stripe by 2 feet. Vanasse finished second, while DeGasparre, Kyle Casper and Jon Dickerman rounded out the top five. Robin Berghman wound up sixth, with Mike Taschereau, Randy Burr, Bill Bernard and Randy Clark rounding out the top ten.

I just have to say one thing. That was for my little girls. I promised you we’d get here again and we did it. I can’t wait to take a picture with you” cried an emotional winner. “I had the Ray Souliere roll going on the outside tonight. All that is, is to stay smooth, and that’s what we did. We stayed smooth. Ryan ran me clean all night. I think Gerry being there helped, because Ryan had to protect the bottom. I first want to thank Phil’s Propane. Without Phil, we definitely would not be here. My crew has worked hard these last few weeks. We tore the car up bad a couple of weeks ago, and she was damn good tonight. Thanks to Dave Berghman. He helped up out until 3 today, and in practice. Route 6 Automall, AdGraph, Narragansett Beer, CanDigIt Excavating, Toner Electric, and Wayne’s Auto Repair, and anyone else I forgot. I just can’t wait to get into victory lane with my daughters.”

To some, it looks as if Dave Darling is struggling this year. To him, it’s the competition that has caught up to him. “We’ve worked harder on this car this season, than we have the past couple of years. The competition is tough.” Dave stated after the events.

The sophomore duo of Scott Dion and Matt Hudon sat on the front row as the green flag waved the 40 lap Pro Stock main event. The event would go only one lap before the caution dropped for the first time when the East Coast Collision Chevy of Ryan Lineham spun in turn 3. As they came back to green, Again, Hudon was able to power ahead for the lead, putting Dion into second with Jake Vanada in third. John Dabrowski was running the outside in fourth, but got squeezed up to the third groove, and lost several positions in the exchange, dropping his Tire Warehouse Chevy out of the top five. Several cars slid by underneath, including Fred Astle, Les Rose Jr, and Tom Scully Jr.

Dave Darling used the inside lane to put his Johnson Landscaping Dodge into third, squeezing by the Aubuchon Hardware Ford of Vanada, with the Wood Frame Structures Chevy of Astle trying to follow through. Darling used the inside again under the Douglas A King Builders Chevy of Dion, as Vanada tried to follow through, but couldn’t close the deal. A little deeper, the Regan Law PC of Ryan Vanasse was using the same lane to get by points leader Fred Astle. He picked up fifth just shy of the 15 lap mark.

As Darling closed in on the Honey Dew Donuts Chevy, he took a different approach and slid up to the outside lane. The pair raced wheel to wheel for several laps, until Darling put his Almeida Farms Dodge onto the top of the leader board on lap 17. Behind them, the battle for fourth was raging three wide, with Vanada hanging it on the outside of Scott Dion, when Vanasse took the open lane down low, and picked up a spot. As they crossed the halfway point, the top five were Darling, Hudon, Vanada, Vanasse, and Astle. Tom Scully Jr was sixth, with Ken Spencer, Les Rose Jr, Scott Dion and John Dabrowski rounding out the top ten. The second caution came out on lap 23, when Mike Marfeo spun in turn 2.

Dave Darling was on a mission, and got the jump on Hudon as the green came back out. Behind Hudon, the Wheelock NAPA Auto Group Chevy of Tom Scully Jr was starting to make his presence known, as he, Astle, and Vanada waged a three way battle for third, with Kid Scully coming out on top of that battle. Vanada would lose several positions, falling back to seventh over the next couple of laps. As they crossed for lap 30, Darling had a 5 car length advantage of the battle for second. Vanasse slid under Hudon, and took the runner-up position away from last years Rookie of the Year. Scully  looked under the T & J Frye Trucking Chevy of Hudon and dropped him back to fourth, and as he tried to drop to the bottom of the racetrack, he crossed the nose of Astle and spun in turn four. John Dabrowski and Mike Brightman were involved as they tried to stop to avoid the spinning Hudon.

With 32 laps complete, the field was ready for another restart. It would not last long, as it appeared something broke in the left front suspension of Mike Brightman’s impact Collision Parts Ford, and he came to a rest in turn two. Whatever it was, it was not serious, as his crew would get him out in no time and back on the grid. Lap 33 saw the fifth yellow drop when the Pub 76 Chevy of Ken Spencer went around in turn 4. After a false start, the green dropped again, but the field would be slowed up one more time on lap 34, when Matt Hudon stalled going into the pits.

With six laps remaining, Darling took command of the race and never looked back. Behind him, Les Rose Jr was working his way through the field on his first race back in over a year, and was solidly in the top five in his Hank Zion’s Auto Salvage Chevy. In the end, it was Darling picking up his first win of the season, over Vanasse, Scully Jr, Rose, and Astle for the top five. Russ Hersey was sixth, with Vanada, Brightman, Rob Murray, and Darryl Stampfl rounding out the top ten.

This is for all the guys who have worked so hard on this car for the past weeks. We have not been off from last year at all. Everyone else has just gotten better.” exclaimed a relieved victor. “We had engine problems at the beginning of the year, and overheated it last week. These guys have been doing nothing but working on it. I have to thank them for all of their hard work: Ron, Pete, Tom, and my car owner Gary. Without him, I wouldn’t be doing this. Johnson Landscaping is his company, Bristol Toyota Scion, Almeida Farms, Ocean State Sweeping, My dad for spotting, Gerry spots, Jeff, and the others who help out spotting for me. It was a good race. I had a lot of fun. Thanks to the fans who came out and watched us race too.”

The next event on the ARC schedule is the Miller Gold Cup Classic for the Pro Stocks, as the third 75 lap feature for the Pro Stocks headline the card. The Late Models, Street Stocks, and Seekonk Sport Trucks will complete the card for the evening. The Seekonk Sport Truck feature that was postponed from the previous week is being finalized for the competitors. An announcement should come this week. The True Value Modifieds return to Seekonk on Saturday, August 30, for the Del’s Lemonade 100. The ARC Late Models, Street Stocks and Seekonk Sport Trucks will round out the card.
