Uhrig, Gomes, Levesque Join List of Winners as Seekonk Speedway Celebrates Labor Day
Seekonk, MA — The Labor Day tradition continued at Seekonk Speedway on Sunday, August 31 with their ever popular Thrill Show. The show featured 8 different events on the card.
The day began with over 75 cars partaking in the fourth Spectator Drag event of the season. In the end, it was Chris Gomes’ 78 Camaro besting Michael Vincent and his 91 Mitsubishi VR4 in a two lap finale. The mid-summer special winner Al Amarantes finished third in his 94 Camaro.
Pure Stocks were next on the card with a 25 lap feature, that saw Warwick’s Nick Uhrig lead from green to checker, dominating the competition. Uhrig crossed the line for his second win of the season by over five seconds in front of runner-up and current points leader Scott Cestodio. Reigning champion Bill Chouinard was third, with Mark Boisvert and Tom Blackwell rounding out the top five. John Robidoux, Carlos Silva, CJ Mello, Jeremy Lambert and Vinny Pangelinan rounded out the top ten.
Next up on the schedule were the Enduro Drags, pitting several cars together for a one lap elimination round. In the end, it was Vinnie Arrenegadour of Warren RI holding on after several rounds to pick up the win. Ray Alexander and Timothy Hippolito finished second and third.
Three Enduro races were held for the 90+ cars in attendance. After eight laps of competition in each event, Randy Lavasseur of Milford, Bruce Slater of Cranston and Tom Hayden of Fall River were holding the checkered flag.
One of the newest events on the schedule is the Trailer Race. This event pits a vehicle with a trailer of some sort hitched on, with a jam car behind it designed to protect their trailer or destroy the competitors hang on. Ray Alexander of Warren held on with his Ski-Doo still buttoned up to the back of his wagon at the end.
Eight trucks braved the ramps and wet turns for their first ever Figure-8 event. Gerald Murphy of Cranston, RI led the way and hung on for the victory in his F-150.
In the car portion of the Figure-8s, Gary DeCosta of Somerset was able to get through the mess in the center of the X for the win. Bob Luongo of Fall River and Michelle Heath of Kingston MA were second and third.
Telstar Pyrotechnics Productions once again performed an all out aerial assault of fireworks that will leave folks talking about it for a long time. The ooohs and aaahs reigned from the thousands in attendance as the reds, whites, blues and assorted colors lit up the southeastern Mass sky.
The Grande Finale of this event was the world famous Demolition Derby. One by one the cars were eliminated until it was Dighton MA’s Jason Levesque limping his Oldsmobile Cutlass to the win over Dimitri Lysitato of Lincoln RI and Ben Goode of Easton MA.
There is talk of one last thrill show at Halloween time, but no date has been set. Please check our web site, www.seekonkspeedway.com for additional information.
