Drawing Local Fans the Focus of Promoters Workshops

Edgar, WI — Promoters must replace their over-reliance on traveling race fans with a focus on local race fans to succeed in today’s market, according to Racing Promotion Monthly, the national trade newsletter for auto racing promoters, and drawing local fans will be the focus of this winter’s 36th RPM Promoters Series.  Humpy Wheeler, recently retired promoter of Lowe’s Motor Speedway will deliver keynote remarks at the Speedweek Workshop, the popular promoter returning to the Workshops podium for the first time in a decade.  Roger Slack, most recently Wheeler’s vice-president of events at Lowe’s, will make opening remarks at the Reno Workshop. Seventeen additional sessions, covering the breadth of weekly race track operation, emphasizing practical ideas adaptable to any short track, complete the agenda.

The Thirty-Sixth Annual RPM Promoters Workshops Series, where promoters will meet friends they can talk with and gather ideas they can use, begins December 4 in Reno, NV, and concludes during Speedweek, February 9-11, 2009, in Lake Mary, FL.  The Workshops, produced by Racing Promotion Monthly and presented by K&K Insurance and Hoosier Racing Tire, return this Winter to the Eldorado Hotel Casino, Reno, and the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary, Lake Mary, FL.

In keeping with Workshops 3-1/2 decade long mission, other sessions will discuss, in depth, the day-to-day issues promoters face.  Among sessions will be the Workshops popular “Thirty Ideas in Thirty Minutes” sessions covering a half-dozen race event management and marketing topics.  Following up on last winter’s discussion, “TechSpec,” experts will address racing rules and enforcement, and the issues surrounding “crate” and “built” engines.  The “Risky Business Forum,” a linchpin session of the Workshops will discuss insurance and risk management.  Another highlight of the Workshops is the 12 hours of informal networking time scheduled into the agenda.  More than a dozen additional sessions will discuss topics as different as dirt track prep and text messaging promotions, sponsorship marketing and social networking websites, race management and the hiring and management of interns, increasing food and beverage sales and how to turn newspaper’s problems to promoters’ advantage.

Visit wwww.rpmpromotersworkshops.com for more information, the latest updates on agenda topics as they are posted, and the site’s new online registration page.  Make your plans to attend now to gain greatest advantage of opportunities during airline turmoil, and remember, your Workshop credential admits bearers to Daytona-area short track races while the Speedweek Workshop takes place.

The meetings are the 96th and 97th produced by Racing Promotion Monthly since 1974.  More than 1400 track operators, their employees, and industry leaders attended last year’s Workshops.  Racing Promotion Monthly, the idea newsletter for auto racing promoters (www.racingpromotionmonthly.net), and the Workshops are produced with the year-round support of K&K Insurance Group, Inc., Hoosier Racing Tire.  More information is available from RPM at 715-536-1067, or on the World Wide Web at www.rpmpromotersworkshops.com.
