Ryan Morgan Claims Legends Victory, Gerstch Notches X-Modified Summer Sizzler And Championship

Waterford, CT — Ryan Morgan won the 30-lap Legends feature on Wednesday evening at the Waterford Speedbowl, while it was Billy Gerstch Jr. claiming the X-Modified 50-lap Summer Sizzler as presented by Prestige Properties. The program marked the final installment of the season for the popular mid-week series.

Other feature winners were Greg Moran Sr. (Super-X Car), Curt D`Addario Sr.      (X-Car), and Scott Foster (Outlaw Stocks).

Teenage Legends sensation Ryan Morgan passed early leader Glen Billings for the lead on lap-twenty, going on to snare his fourth feature victory of the season. Behind him a battled waged between 2008 Wednesday Legends champion Jason Palmer and Shaun Buffington. At the stripe, Palmer narrowly edged-out Buffington to finish ahead of Max Zachem and Glen Billings.

Taking the first-ever Prestige Properties 50-lap Summer Sizzler for the X-Modifieds, it was Billy Gerstch Jr. Surviving several restarts in the caution-plagued event, the winner battled with early-leader Wayne Arute, finally gaining the advantage when Arute spun in turn-2 after again grabbing the point momentarily. Defending champion Richard “Bubby” Brouwer was one of the many causalities of the event, dashing his chances at another crown. With the victory, rookie Gerstch claimed the championship. Completing the top-5 was Chris Drouin Jr., Robert Barcsansky, David O’Leary, and Brian DiMartino.

Greg Moran Sr. jumped-out to an early lead in 20-lap Super-X Car action, having built-up a substantial lead before a late-yellow bunched the field with only 2-circuits remaining. Moran battled recently-crowned champion George Correia and Michael Maskell II down to the wire in capturing the checkers. The victory was dedicated to his nephew Art Moran III, presently in the Hartford Hospital ICU recovering from a serious ATV accident. Following was John Yagmin and Charles Beal.

In the 20-lap X-Car feature, it was Curt D`Addario Sr. notching another victory. Working his way from deep in the field, the winner was chased to the line by Patrick Williams and Pete Zaikarite. While it was D’Addario taking the measure of most feature victories for the season, it was Brad Voglesong topping the point-standings in recording his second-consecutive championship.

Yet another first for the Speedbowl was the well-received 25-lap “Outlaw Stock” race as presented by Critical Signs and Graphics. Winning was Scott Foster in a Chevy Monte Carlo. Alan Coates led early, chauffeuring an AllStar truck entry before Foster slipped-by with 17-circuits remaining. Former Speedbowl regular Glen Boss claimed second in his Thompson Modified when the Coates entry balked, apparently running-out of fuel. Rounding-out the top-5 was Chris “Moose” Douton and Rick Nelson.

Dan Yagmin (Super-X-Car), and Mark Caisse (X-Car) claimed the “Mechanics Races”.

Action resumes at the Speedbowl this Saturday evening with this “Double-Down Plus”. On the agenda is the completion of last week’s “fogged-out” Double-Down” races, an extra-distance feature for the Legends and an X-Car event.
